Imo that is not a penalty or at least shouldn't be. A few years ago I was livid because Liverpool got a penalty for something similar (as far as i remember).

Imo the rule should be that if you get between the ball and a player and they kick you then it's a foul against them. As long as Party didnt (without doubt) kick or stand on DeBruyne's right foot then he should be given the benefit of the doubt.

Just my opinion.
He did hit Kev’s standing leg before Kev kicked through.

I can't tell for sure that he did (from the clips I've seen) so imo the ref was right to call it as he did in real-time. And Var were right to say it wasn't "clearly" incorrect.

What bugs me though is why a ref can't run to the monitor and take a closer look from another perspective for all the big decisions. Surely it couldn't take more than a few minutes each time and in a normal game there would be only a few anyway. They take long enough to fix their equipment every few games and the sky doesn't fall in on the world as a result..

VAR is crap imo because its not allowing the refs to make the call. I'd prefer the game to be 30 minutes longer than to have ridiculous decisions like the non-penalties in Liverpool's favour in the past few games.

Also I think the refs should be miked up so we hear (and accept regardless) their logic. If they want to be respected they should man up and speak up. They are like frightened actors before the talkies took over.

IMO the PL teams are also to blame though because they could easily band together to insist that the officiating is vastly improved. Instead they moan here and there while being shafted by incompetence or worse.

random thought from watching the highlights ... both of Kev's goals were top-spin grass cutters, even Haaland appeared to effort a low shot when he scored late ... wonder if the staff noticed a Ramsdale weakness for low shots and suggested it as a strat

I was just thinking about that,
he was running full tilt for half the pitch to get back and tackle, and then set up the play and break for our attack.
Absolutely amazing Roy of the Rovers stuff, brilliant.

These are things that prevent the oppo' scoring, they don't get the chance to even create a goal scoring opportunity.
When he arrived he must have thought wtf! when he saw how much off the ball pressing was expected, now he’s one of our best at it.

Not a penalty, it would suck if such a penalty was given against us, in all fairness, it was a good maneuver to deny KDB like that

I agree too.
It’s done at the corner flag at the end of every game.

One angle - Oliver's - suggests Partey got his foot planted next to the ball then Kev's swing of the foot to shoot meant he kicked Partey. But did Partey kick Kev's leg before planting his foot? (He didn't have much control and looked to looking at Kev rather than the ball.) From the limited views we've seen, even if it was a mistake, I don't think VAR could say it was a clear and obvious error.

Whether they'd have said the same if he'd given the penalty, one can only guess.
