Embarrassing turnout from City fans. Can't claim to be a big club with a support like that

There is nothing embarrasing about people not wasting their money on a 400 mile round trip to watch a friendly with 1/2 a reserve team. I live 30 minutes away and I wasn't interested, didn't even listen to it, the outcome was obvious back in May, as was the attendence by City fans. Personally I'll keep my money for bigger and better days, I can't stand Wembley, or what it stands for, if I need to go there for a cup final or semi final I will, but I'm not going there for friendly matches with a team full of reserves.

I don't see how being indifferent to a 3-0 defeat is so much worse than an indifferent approach leading to a 3-0 defeat.

But everyone's entitled their opinion.

I think you are being a tad over sensitive. Stony asked you a question free of malice but you took it as an insult.

Neither do I think it is wise that you ask if posters have a problem with those whose first language is not English.

I think I said in the pre match thread that the game was more important for Arsenal than City, in terms of mentality anyway. You are league champions, you've proved you can go the distance, you've proved you can beat the big boys as well, whereas there's still the question mark over Arsenal mentality wise, whether they can actually beat their main rivals, & last the distance longer term.

It's obvious that both teams were a bit under strength, missing key players, or players playing that have little over a week pre season training, so in terms of the actual result, hopefully any sane Arsenal fan won't read too much into it. What it does is just gives us a wee bit belief & confidence we can mix it with you guys, which is important considering the perceived fragility of our mentality still.

And if anyone thinks the result has too much bearing on the season...this result; Arsenal 3-1 Man City (in Finland), ironically exactly a year ago to the day yesterday, proves we shouldn't read too much into results just now.

i was disappointed yesterday with the lack of urgency in our play, you were a good yard quicker all over the pitch for the majority of the game.
but looking back now i can see it for what it is, no one likes to lose, friendly or not but there is a bigger picture.

On another forum someone was saying that the movie of Arsenal being contenders looks like it's going to repeat. People like to have fun with the supposed scouse boom-bust cycle, but I think there's also an Arsenal version of that--the difference is it's that EVERYONE gets in on it (many in this thread).

So the plot of the movie which is on annual loop goes like this:

1. Arsenal will come out of the races on fire, lots of fancy flicks and lots of sexy football. Walcott looking like the new Henry, etc.

2. Probably in October or November l they will be on top of the league, and stay there for a while.

3. The media and fans on rival forums (except for whatever reason rag cafe--oddly enough, the rags are the one set of fans that always see this one ahead of time) will start predicting that Sanchez is going to be the catalyst this season, and will use Sanchez to respond to those that call them out for yet again thinking that Arsenal will win the league.

4. Around February or March Arsenal will have a "dip in form".

5. Right around then they will be battered by one of the Manchester teams or Chelsea.

6. The mental meltdown chain reaction will start, and they will plummet down the table.
6a. Some apologists will say that "if not for all these bunch of injuries" that poor Arsenal have had, they'd have been well on their way to winning their league. They will ignore it when it's pointed out to them that other teams will also have had their own injuries at that point.

7. They will crunch it out in the end and just squeak fourth, and everyone will marvel at how they keep qualifying for the Champions League with limited resources and building a team "the right way".

Repeat for the 2015-16 season, replace Sanchez with some small, sort of tricky, attacking midfielder signing that they will make next summer.

My prediction? Distant third at best. Probably fight for 4th with Everton, us, the Rags and Spurs. I think 3rd place this season will be closer to 5th place in points than to 2nd place.

The only problem with that is the fixtures in February March are Spurs, Leicester, Crystal Palace, Everton, QPR, West Ham & Newcastle. Maybe the thumping & the slump will happen earlier or later this time. ;-)

Yeah there's basically two variations to that plotline. Either start strong and look like contenders early on before imploding later in the season or have a disastrous start ruling you out of the race early and finish strong to secure top 4. Keeps it interesting I guess :P

Also I don't think there's really anything that can be taken out of yesterday's game except that our fitness levels seem to be improving at a decent rate, should be about ready for the opening day.

Arsenal were doing really well last season untill they lost Ramsay and Walcott, they have cover for Walcott but not Ramsay can see them finishing top 3 and pushing to win the title in the last half dozen games

With Koscielny suffering from an ankle problem, Mertesacker returning late from the world cup, and Vermaelen just sold to Barcelona that leaves Calum Chambers the only player available in the centerback position. 19 years old and just signed from Southamption, he has been playing top-flight football for all of one season. He looked composed and confident during preseason, but that's preseason and he's still a kid. Unless we can get a player in before the weekend, that will probably mean that Chambers starts with Monreal in the center of defence against Crystal Palace. That's definitely not ideal as Monreal has only filled in there during preseason and has never played in that position in a competitive match. Really missing Sagna right now. Once again we appear to be in quite a tight spot, but all we can do is have faith in the manager. I know that Arsene knows, but he really makes me anxious sometimes.

arsenal reminded me of barca yesterday,one touch,sexy football had us tied in knots,i think they`ll be the team to catch this season,wenger has them chomping at the bit and the way they brushed aside the champions with ease yesterday was frightening,anybody who finishes above them will have had a fantastic season...
a joy to watch they was and the arsenal was well up for it,you could tell it meant something to them.
