Bad. Fucking. News.

With Koscielny suffering from an ankle problem, Mertesacker returning late from the world cup, and Vermaelen just sold to Barcelona that leaves Calum Chambers the only player available in the centerback position. 19 years old and just signed from Southamption, he has been playing top-flight football for all of one season. He looked composed and confident during preseason, but that's preseason and he's still a kid. Unless we can get a player in before the weekend, that will probably mean that Chambers starts with Monreal in the center of defence against Crystal Palace. That's definitely not ideal as Monreal has only filled in there during preseason and has never played in that position in a competitive match. Really missing Sagna right now. Once again we appear to be in quite a tight spot, but all we can do is have faith in the manager. I know that Arsene knows, but he really makes me anxious sometimes.

Wenger seems to have issues when it comes to the defence in his teams. He loves the slightly small, nice passing, tricky attacking players, and buys loads of them, to the point where people like Arteta have to "convert" themselves into a more defensively minded player to get game time. What he never actually seems to do is look at the defence and spend a decent wedge on strengthening it. Look at the fullback positions, Gibbs is ok, Monreal is average, Chambers is unproven to a degree, could be excellent, could not. Debuchy looks decent enough, but he was hardly setting the world alight at Newcastle. Then there's the centre halves, Koscielny, Mertesacker and then who? Chambers again? The risk of having the same guy as starter/backup for multiple positions is you can't cover 2 missing players.

Couple of things:

1) No Ozil helped Arsenal big time. His lack of work rate coupled with his inability to perform in big games makes it a 10 v 11

2) 4-3-3: 3 in the middle v unfit Toure and Fernando. And they only played 3 in the middle probably b/c Ozil was missing.

arsenal reminded me of barca yesterday, one touch, sexy football had us tied in knots,i think they`ll be the team to catch this season, wenger has them chomping at the bit and the way they brushed aside the champions with ease yesterday was frightening, anybody who finishes above them will have had a fantastic season...
a joy to watch they was and the arsenal was well up for it,you could tell it meant something to them.

Seriously?

Arsenal looked pretty decent yesterday, but then they always do early in the season. The issues previous Arsenal squads have had are the same issues this Arsenal squad has had, Wenger never seems to address them! Buying Ozil last year was supposed to be the big statement, the turning point, and they finished 4th again. This time around it's Sanchez. There's only so may players you can have in your team who play in that attacking role. Arsenal need a legitimate, lead the line, striker. Sanchez is more a number 10, Giroud isn't good enough to play for City, or Chelsea, so why is he good enough for Arsenal, and don't get me started on Yaya Sonogo!

All of that is just window dressing though when it comes to Arsenal's biggest issues, the defence. They are short on numbers, and quality. Then there's the defensive side of the midfield. Can you see Arteta or Flamini getting in any of the other tops sides midfields in that role? They are too small, they lack the strength and the ability to be really effective in those roles and given they're both in their 30's now their days are surely numbered. These issues are plan for all to see, yet year on year they fail to properly address them.

Arsenal will be Arsenal this season, they'll do pretty well, but they'll fall short and settle for a Champion's League spot, 3rd or 4th.

Completely agree. They will pick of the lesser teams by passing and moving and just picking them off. But as per usual, against the top sides who pack the midfield, they will struggle to create as much and will be picked off on the break. Should we play Hart, Clichy, Mangala, Kompany, Zabaleta, Fernando, Fernandinho, Yaya, Silva, Nasri, Aguero we will pick them off on the counter so easily. We won the league last season because we were the side with the most balance. Liverpool too attacking, Chelsea too defensive and couldn't score enough, Arsenal similarly too attacking in the major games... we had the ability to adapt to the situation. We could be difficult to breakdown when we needed to be and we could pick teams off when we had to. Arsenal tried to go toe to toe with Liverpool and City last season and they were just picked off on the break.

And us. 6-0 on Wenger's 1000th game. They even lost to United last season.

Wenger came out with a decent point about the defence. Barcelona acquired the boy from Valencia & Vermaleen to try & shore up their defence. Why? Because perhaps there aren't that many top class options out there that are available. People keep mentioning the likes of Hummels & Subotic & Varane etc.....but do we honestly think any of these guys will move?

He also mentions that perhaps he is better looking for a guy that can cover 2 or 3 positions? This could be because they have are close to filling up there quota for non homegrown players. If he signs 1 player that can play 2 or 3 positions, this would help negate this, but of course there aren't that many players who excel when asked to play in a dual role.

Think this shows he still has a bit of tinkering to do squad wise to get it where he needs it to be.

Probably helps if, when taking the piss in written form, it actually looks like that's what you're doing!

And also what helps is don't go steamrollering in and post without thinking first...
Tongue firmly planted in cheek with that post pal....

You think Pellegrini and the players were indifferent to a 3-0 loss?

Okay.

He said he thinks we "approached the game with a degree of indifference" Is English not your first language ?

No, English isn't my first language.
Is that a problem on this forum or for you, dear stony?

I don't see how being indifferent to a 3-0 defeat is so much worse than an indifferent approach leading to a 3-0 defeat.

But everyone's entitled their opinion.

Give your vadge a wipe and simmer down cupcake. I asked the question because you clearly didn't understand his post. That's either because English isn't your first language or you're as thick as pigshit. I gave you the benefit of the doubt.
Looking at how you've responded to my post and taking into consideration how you responded to Mancs, I can see there is a third option. You understood perfectly but just wanted to be a twat. You came here to gloat but have found that most of us are pretty indifferent(there's that word again) and it irked you.
Well tough shit with knobs on.
Anyone is welcome here from whatever country and from whatever team, as long as they behave themselves. You however seem to be bristling with indignation from the off. Unless you simmer down a touch I fear your stay will be a short one.
