That was a really good performance. Arteta's appointment has galvanised Arsenal. They've got some really good forwards and they also had a point to prove. That was a big game for them and they showed up. All their players have been publically criticised and ridiculed and yesterday they responded.

Pleased for Arteta. He's a guy who you want to see do well in football.

If Arteta brings the glory days back to Arsenal and wins the league why would he want to come back to city in the future when you can make your own legacy there?

Big difference between doing well, and winning the league. Arsenal simply don't have the investment to win a league whilst competing with City, Klopp's Liverpool and even Chelsea if they when they come back.

Real success would be if he got them to the top 4 and won a cup...I don't think he can feasibly do better, and if he's good enough to do that, he won't be content with it.

watching arsenal since arteta went there and the one big thing you see and stands out like a sore thumb is fitness ? the players can not last 50 minutes and all the answers to the questions why arsenal are in a mess is clear, they have been coasting for years, from training to lifestyle nobody has asked the question how much do you want it ???

arteta will get this reaction and the players will buy into it until get to face the best teams like city and liverpool and lose, then they will know the level is about class and not just fitness and players will down tools again when knowing that being 2nd best is harder training for than stuck in mid-table getting the same results and still win nothing

Big difference in workrate and most players aren't naturally lazy they know what their bodies can cope with ,Lacazette broke down and it will be a question of how many can cope with the extra workload

I thought Pépé took his goal brilliantly yesterday.

Coming on to the ball and controlling the shot in the way that he did showed great technique.

Tend to agree with your first paragraph. Everyone agreed Arsenal needed someone to really get the players together & get them working harder, a lot thought that needed an experienced manager, 1 seen as more hard-line, but everything that we were hearing was that Arteta did have a steely side to him. Theres ways of motivating through fear, the best coaches make you want to work for them.

It's obvious that fitness is an issue currently. However, this problem has been amplified more with the busy festive season, and injuries that have meant they've not really been able to rotate. It's also obvious that there will still be a fair turnover of players. Think he's boxing quite clever with Ozil just now for instance getting him onside, but he won't be there long term. Can imagine Xhaka leaving in the summer & someone more athletic coming in. At least 3 possibly all 4 of the back 4 that played last night won't be first choice next season. So I think he's doing well with what he's got, trying to create a team spirit again & some unity, but everyone realises that some big changes are required.

Unusual to see Claude not in his full on "ranting miserable cnut" mode. Think I preferred him that way, to be honest. Like me, being happy and cheerful doesn't suit him!
