Posted this in the Pellegrini thread, but who were they really missing? This is confusing the shit out of me. Ozil has been turning in poor performances, Wilshere has had a bad season when fit, and Ramsey's a loss but Rosicky was great. It's just Koscielny, and Vermaelen played fine in his place. Where exactly was this gigantic opportunity that some of you naysayers are seeing?
Ozil and Wilshere have both been inconsistent, but on their day can be instrumental. Koscielny was a big loss and while Vermaelen is a top-quality back up to have, there were some doubts about how well he could step in, considering how little he's played this season and his role in conceding a goal to Swansea midweek- doubts which he did very well to dispell. Ramsey, or Welsh Jesus as we call him, of course was a big miss. And then there's Walcott, arguably our most potent goal-threat who has been out almost all season.
I understand why people were worried about some absences going into the game. What I'm asking is who were they missing in hindsight, after watching today's performance? Rosicky was fantastic in Ramsey's place. Vermaelen had nothing to apologize for in Koscielny's place. And the team has played better on the whole with Ozil and Wilshere sidelined. So in hindsight, where was this giant gaping window of an opportunity that the gunners' squad players weren't able to fill. Even Ox has stepped up for Theo, even if he didn't start today out of Wenger feeling cautious.
