I think Pellegrini is viewing the Community Shield as a trophy so he won't risk playing unfit players, he will want the fittest and most in form available to him.

I do fear for our defence though, as a partnership I would argue that Boyata and Nastasic together isn't even Premier League quality and the thought of Sanchez etc... running at them is worrying.

I still think we will create chances but to win the match we need a decent defense being put out, maybe we should go three in midfield and add Zuculini to Yaya and Fernando.

I think the lower end teams would be happy with that centre half partnership, however,i'll agree,it definitely shouldn't be ours and a strong, athletic midfield will be needed.

There are enough big time players if they do their stuff to win this. As for the players being absent, always noticed last year if a player was absent before he would be considered had to at least done a full weeks training. I am sure come away at Toon all players in training who haven't been sold or who are on the sell list will be in contention.

I agree.

Sergio did not play a game in pre-season last summer if I remember yet he started the first game of the season against Newcastle, scored a great goal and didn't look that much off the pace at all.

Perhaps the club don't want to be accused of treating the fixture with disdain? We could give the returning players 45 mins each, change the entire back 4 at half time and play the game at walking pace. Which might be seen to be disrespectful to the fixture and short changing the fans. Instead we play a weakened team, but featuring reasonably fit players who can have a go. And then play a friendly behind closed doors early next week

I know we need to give certain players game time but I want to win this trophy so for me whoever is fit and in form should play, those who are not ready should not play, or at the very least get 20 minutes or so.

We may lose this game because of a poor defense, but we have enough attacking talent at our disposal at the moment to cause Arsenal problems.

Im not looking forward to this game - I think we will lose - and strangely im not very positive about the season either !
Lindow Man will get the rags playing so I see a top 3 place nailed on for them, chelsea have bought some amazing players, arse have a true destroyer in sanchez, liverpool - well i hope they do a utd like last season tbh, Everton have strenghtened..

I know we have an amazing team and im really happy about our signings but.. i dunno really my only concern is that we havent signed a "bomb" of a player, someone who can shake things up and cause instant damage i.e. sanchez.
I just think a big player coming in gets everyone excited including the players.

Well we'll see, probably just the old skool negative City fan in me coming out!

Come on MCFC!

Jovetic will be our bomb player.

If we can score close to the same number of goals as last season but concede 10 less we will be hard to beat to the title.

With the amount of 1st team players missing, I can't see a win.

Pity really, as it's another trophy on the honours board, no matter what anyone says about the Community Shield.

Don't get the pessimism, we've added depth to an already quality squad. The only reason I can think that your a bit concerned is our frequent injuries to Aguero, Kompany, Silva etc.

Chelsea seem to be getting all the pre season favourite tag but I think they'll come 2nd behind us. The signings all look good on paper but there's no guarantees.

Jovetic has finally had a run of games and has shown his quality, more than just glimpses like last year. I expect him to make his mark early on this season. He'll be our 'bomb' player.

I agree.

I think we have enough attacking talent to get a goal or two but our defense is nowhere near good enough without Vinny, Zab and Martin.

I would go with three in midfield and play Zuculini with Yaya and Fernando.
