Will Arteta want to follow Pep?

When Pep leaves we may hit the same problem that Utd hit when Fergie left ... that the next manager is almost guaranteed to disappoint and be seen to be getting less good results with the same group of players.

Following straight after "the greatest manager this club has ever had" tends to be a poisoned chalice?

To think this is to completely misunderstand the two men and how the two organisations function(ed).

I hope you're right.

It seems that Fergie was really poor at planning for the future after he left ... and all the people who supposedly learned their management skills from 'the great man' (Bruce, Keane, Ince, Phelan, Hughes, etc ... even McLeish & Strachan from earlier times) turned out to be diabolically bad managers.

I hope Pep helps City to plan for life after him, and passes on his skills to those he sees have potential ... but really, how big an incentive does a manager have to ensure that he is less missed when he goes?

He would have to be special to replace Pep with no managerial experience and if he truly is a mini pep in the making then he will surely be off proving his worth elsewhere long before it’s time to take the seat here. I’m sure it’s the plan but I wouldn’t expect it to happen. It’s more likely he goes elsewhere and comes back further down the line if he does well.

We need an allardyce or mourinho after Pep. Somebody who’s football is so shit that we can appreciate decent football again from the guy who comes after him.

Pep is fundamentally a coach he does not manage MCFC. There are others who do that including our DoF Txiki Begiristain.

The Govan Pisscan was a manager who oversaw all aspects at the rags. He employed others to do much of the coaching.

Pep's previous clubs have not fallen apart when he's left. Obviously the longer he stays the better but we will definitely be in way better shape than the rags were when the GP left them.

Agree about the quiet character. I am not sure he has the charisma required to manage at this level or the authority. Nice guy by all accounts and highly intelligent... is that enough??

Inexperience. When pep goes all his backroom.staff will leave too. Arteta would be a huge gamble,one City will not take

Are you seriously claiming there are no egos in this squad? For starters, De Bruyne is renowned for being very opinionated and outspoken. That's not a criticism of him but he's far from the only ego in the squad and it's fair to ask whether or not Arteta has the man management skills to handle them.

I think someone has already mentioned it but it would be nice if Pep's time here mirrored the 8 years Cruyff was manager of Barcelona given the obvious comparisons.

You could argue Txiki gambled on Pep at Barca. Without question, he did so because he had seen enough to know Pep is something special. Txiki will have a view on Arteta, based on both his own observations and Pep's. If he thinks Arteta is good enough, he won't shy away from recommending him. Equally, if he thinks there is someone better available for the job, I trust he won't shy away from going down that route.

Whoever gets the job, they will be a step down from Pep but, hopefully not so much that we won't remain thoroughly entertained.

Nope! Don't want him. Once Pep his done here, if he is still here he should go too.

Then again I'm biased. I don't like him.
