The EU will continue to fish where they want and there will be fuck all we can do.
We have 6 destroyers, 6, 2 of which are out of commission at the moment.
We are defenceless at sea.
i think the river class patrol boats might just be capable of seeing off illegal fishing trawlers. We don't need to put our armed forces on full alert just yet.

The very fact that you think that our destroyers are the only vessels capable of monitoring the fisheries policy tells me all I need to know. The fishing community will continue to fish where they like because we haven't got enough 'destroyers'. What the fuck? This made me chuckle.

It doesn't take destroyers to monitor fishing waters and never has. They have been deployed in this scenario in quieter times, but they certainly were never developed for this role, and there are many other vessels that could quite easily be deployed for such purpose.

Thanks for giving me a bit of a laugh anyhow :-)

I give you credit for making me laugh, but a section of Royal marines in small boats guided in by a nimrod should sort any of that malarky, when those boys tell a fishing boat to sling their hook, hooks get f*cking slung.

I am sorry that you think so little of your country's armed forces, but we are more than capable of handling anything that the EU could do to enforce an intrusion of our fishing grounds.

This is a very simplistic way of looking at it. Many on here believe that we give X and get back less than that in monetary terms Y. This is not true, we have absolutely no idea if the result of our membership directly creates jobs, trade and investment resulting far in excess of the amount we give the EU.

The government has not guaranteed any funding whatsoever so to simply say all of these subsidies will be replaced by an equivalent on the exact same terms is not possible.

We have a net deficit of the order of trillions and given the chance do you really believe this government will not look to chip away at funding arrangements?

You may regard it as simplistic, but it is at least a 'hard measure'.

True, we get benefits associated to membership relating to trade etc - but so do all 28 members. Not all contribute to the level of the UK though.

With regard to the post on farming subsidies received from the EU though that I was replying to, or indeed any payments from the EU into the UK, it is entirely true that they total less than we contribute to the EU - so with regard this 'hard measure' we get back less than we put in.

Also, indeed the government could just simply continue the same subsidy regime once we have left. I happen to think that they will - taking some years to review it - you do not think that they will, preferring to pay off the debt. It is a matter of government policy but, either way, at least it will be our government deciding what we spend it on rather than the EU.

Nick Clegg on BBC Breakfast doing his best to RE enforce the EU's position and talking the UK down
No wonder he was slaughtered by Cameron at the last election, the big pussy

The epitome of all that is wrong with certain politicians in this country.

Shall i mention he is almost completely irrelevant as well?

It will probably get lost in the post. Some Johnny Foreigner postman.

On this 'day of days' - If you have doubts - just ask yourself:

If we were not already in the EU - would you want us to join??

If membership of the EU is so marvellous and provides such an unparalleled economic and social bonanza then why is it that membership is only ever actively pursued by those who expect to receive subsidies from Brussels ?
