Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post-Match Thread

Prioritised Tuesday by simply not turning up???
Wasn't like we picked a weak 11.
We were simply poor this evening and have to accept the fact
We turned up, we just didn't give the usual lung busting intensity that usually kills teams off in the second half. Just like the Palace game away last year, this may well be a crucial point come May. Better finishing and we'd have still won this without getting out of first gear.

The only thing on Pep, is that we sometimes find it hard to understand how he allows people stay on the pitch, who are consistently under performing.

We all would have loved to see something more urgent and direct up front. i.e. Alvarez.

I don’t think Pep is sacrificing the league for the CL as someone suggested. I think he just looks at the overall situation with the squad and has a whole season picture in his head. We just look at the game we are watching, but I think he looks at the the season and calculates how he will win the lot. That’s his use of the squad.
He hasn’t done it yet (won the lot) but he’s not been too far off.
We’re always there or there snouts at the business end.

It’s frustrating watching us drop what seems like unnecessary points to Villa and Newcastle but who would bet against us winning the league come next May.
We’ve got a squad of players to use and keep happy

You are blind. KDB produced the goal, Gundo's clear chance in the first half, two great shoots(one that hit the bar), a pass to Haaland, a great 1&2 combo with Haaland, and he was the only guy breaking Villa's defense. He was far and above the best player
You still don’t get it mate. On another day, he could’ve scored a couple of goals. His radar was off for me. So because you disagree I’m blind?

Well, do you recommend specsavers or do you have others I can go to check my site. You make it seem like I’m calling him shite. Do enjoy the rest of your evening

A very laboured performance. Both full backs, Foden and Gundogan were pretty poor. KDB a bit mixed. Bernardo was better second half but very quiet first half, Mahrez had a pretty poor cameo. Our centre backs were ok for the most part but Stones’s poor header set up their goal.

It’s a big disappointing to see us drop points to their only shot on target. We looked off the last 20 minutes, long balls were causing us way too many problems.

We need a few changes against Sevilla.

A lot to of fannies on this thread as per any result that isn’t a 5-0 drubbing.

This was one of those 4/5 games we seem to have every season where no one is properly at it and the performance feels lethargic and sloppy. It’s like the final 2 gears are missing but you can’t quite put your finger on it.

We should be used to it by now.

It’ll be reet.

Forest arent great,i get it....but the system of play we employed allowed him to do what he does best.Today it did not,and the same goes for Bernie and Gundo.
He was the same at Newcastle. Need Philips to get fit so he has competition.

In the context of changing things up as Bernie wasn't doing much and Mahrez is the RW sub it makes sense.

He played poorly, but the idea to change it up is correct.

Pep's problem is that was the only attacking sub and Ake coming on for Walker was hardly useful as Walker could just play back 3 anyways.
Bernie and KDB had the RW locked off in the 2nd half. We were in complete control and Villa were never getting back in it. I don’t think Mahrez should be getting on the pitch. However, if that is the move, bring Gundo off and put Bernie in the middle.

I have no idea what Pep was trying out there. 1st half Walker was seeing far too much ball (again). 2nd half we are in complete control and Pep fucks about again.

Why/how does Mahrez end up on the pitch for Bernie? It absolutely stank of Pep thinking the game was won and ‘oh, we better give Mahrez some minutes’. He took off our legs when we were in complete control of the game and we ended up looking dead on our feet. Gundo (fucking woeful) should have come off, Bernie in the middle and Alvarez on to keep our legs on the pitch.

Make no mistake, Villa were fucking turd and we have thrown away 2 points by Peps stupid fucking subs.
Mahrez and Gundo, the eternal scapegoats. Feel better now after you dropped your turd?!

I often wonder if Pep tinkers with formations early on in the season to make it difficult for other managers later in the season to know which system we are going to play.

Thought we'd win about 3:0. Maybe I took it for granted, players obviously did too!
Pretty complacent in truth, we got punished, next!!
