Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Yep,agreed ...... our 'plan B' always seems to be absent just when we need it most !

Our plan B as always been plan A it worked with the better players and squad at moment there are a few players need to settle into the squad and improve over the next year or two! What we need is a matured winger who has numbers like Mahrez did when we bought him! The wingers we been buying and Bob are all been projects!

I started counting as soon as he had the ball then threw himself to the ground. Sky every time thought that they would have long enough to cut to a replay so I never saw when he released the ball.
100% this
I noticed they did that everytime Martinez got the ball. I only timed him once and had to wait to hear the ball being kicked as you couldn’t see him due to some random replay. He took 18 seconds.
Seems that rule only lasted 2 games.

If we were honest in our assessment of the squad and put a column of proven quality consistent players on one side and inconsistent/not good enough/not yet proven in the other. One side would be very long indeed. Then throw in that we seem to have nothing but niggling injuries then its not a surprise that we are quite a bit away from our best.

The club have to be careful here we've seen what happens to other teams that end up with a lot of average overpaid players in the squad. They are hard to get rid of and it adds a malaise to any decent players you have or can bring in.

If some of these recent signings dont improve quick then we are in trouble.

Since the summer of 2023 how many signings have we made that you can say for definite have been a success?

Made even worse by offering bloody Savinho a new contract! He should be at fucking Spurs.

considering wed just won the treble our summer transfer wasnt great , we really didnt strengthen , gvardiol is the only one imo

sick to death of watching peps come dancing football, 28 passes to get to the halfway line, to find out the opposition are all organized. bobbins, stones has been one of our best, but its like watching margaret rutherford in a blue shirt.
Well, if you’re sick to death of it, the good news is that he’ll be gone sooner rather than later. Then there’ll be a new manager to get behind.

I don't disagree that Stones/Gvardiol weren't great yesterday, but for me either of those options at DM to give us some physical presence (Or Kova/Nico/Oreilly) were worth trying over what we actually went with...

With Nico nearly giving us a half, surely the sensible thing would have been to start him, get the half from him. Would have given us more chance of not conceding the first goal early ish (which we did). Very tough game to come back from then, as it proved.

And this isn't hindsight, said the midfield was very lightweight to my pals in our whatsapp group as soon as the team was announced.
Im not disagreeing on the midfield being poor.

From what we see when players are injury worries managers rarely start them..yes they get time off the bench but there was clearly a concern over Nico or he would have started. ...same for Kova who is coming off the back of a significant injury.

I also said the midfield was a problem before the start of the game so again Im not disagreeing with you...I just dont think there was a lot of option otherwise Pep would have done it. Nico Oreilly aint an option in there - he is just too inexperienced to play such a pivotal role - he played as a no.10 in the EDS didnt he? - yes he has physicality BUT its a completely new position for him

Also Stones is just back and didnt look fit either so I was surprised to see him start but again maybe we had no choice

First 20 mins we were very good, without really getting a clear chance, then they seemed to realise that out of possession we were just too open and managed to break and look very threatening. For me Pep made 3 bad selection decisions - Josko at LB, Rudolf at DM and Stones stepping into Mid (he is not yet sharp enough to play there). O'Reilly should have been LB, Josko at CB and Nico or Kova at DM. We don't have many more games that we can slip up in now, which is worrying this early in the season

Not sure where you heard Reis is doing well on loan ? Girona are bottom of the league and have the worst defence in Span.

Echeverri is rotting away on the Levekeusen bench not getting any minutes.

Pointless signings when we needed players ready to challenge the first team.
I heard despite there position Reis had performed ok...maybe I got it wrong.

Echeverri will need time....like any youngster coming from South AMerican leagues it will be hit and miss....maybe it works, maybe it doesnt - we will sell him on for profit if he doesnt make it

You are correct though -we needed first team players in the summer as well as those ....All summer i said we were crying out for a CDM and fullbacks plus cover for centre half

I’m sorry but would love to know what the encouraging signs are. Our performances against the better teams are shocking.

We have one player scoring 95% of our goals and yesterday played with 2 wingers that have both scored once in their mediocre PL careers.

But it’s not just the quality that’s shit - there is no charisma, passion or star dust in this City team. Just dull passive crap with no spirit. Nobody looking after each other.

We are the only team in the league that hasn’t scored a set piece goal all season. Which is not surprising as we don’t have a player in the team that can take a free kick or corner.

We had better pray Haaland stays fit cause if he picked up a long term injury we would be truly fucked.

And I totally disagree that we are on the way with our rebuild. How many of our rebuild will be starting games.

Shit recruitment and a confused Pep has left us watching garbage like yesterday.
Ah, Prophet! Hello! Good to finally see you again. I wondered where you'd been the past few weeks. Nice to see you posting again after only popping up after the defeat to Brighton in August and the draw against Monaco. A shame you weren't here after the Manchester derby, or the win against Napoli, or any of the other wins we've notched up in recent matches. God, I bet the unbeaten run must have been killing you.

I'll file your most recent prediction here alongside all your other pearls of wisdom, such as: "Pep saw enough of Khusanov in those early games to know he is not for him", "Marmoush is the only January 2025 signing that has a future at City", "We'll drop to 8th and miss out on the the top four in 2025", "Absolutely no chance we are getting a Champions League place", "City shouldn't have held a trophy parade after winning four titles in a row" and, my favourite, "We won't be winning anything at the end of the 23/24 season" - among dozens more that I've unearthed just from a quick scan at your posting history this morning.

Although, looking through your post history, I started noticing a pattern. You were largely absent the week we won the title in 2024 but popped up days later after the FA Cup final. You were also largely absent the month we won the treble in 2023. You still posted in the 115 Charges thread, though, and the Etihad Atmosphere thread... Hm. "Sniff sniff" as some say round here.

Thank you for reminding me that there are still a handful of users on Bluemoon who should be on my "ignore" list - it should go without saying that you're one of them. I thought I'd caught all the doomsayers who only hang around here on our occasional bad days, but you've popped up so rarely recently that I'd forgotten about you until this morning. I guess our form since the spring has been so good that you've felt no reason to jump on here and wind people up.

I like it when City win, for many reasons. I think chief among them now will be your embarrassed absence from this forum.

Yep, there might be a lot of truth in that ...... and why aren't they working on taking productive corner kicks too. They're an important 'set piece' and ours are usually a complete waste of time.

40 years ago I said whenever we win a corner we might as well just give the ball to their keeper and let him take a goal kick as we were so consistently useless at corners.

It seems some things never change!

Every other clubs ex players lords over there former teams then you have him and Richards ..........sure the Tv Channels do it on purpose

Spitty was taking the piss out of Richards calling him a Villa fan live on air yesterday and the clown Richards didn't correct him he just laughed and behaved like the useful idiot he is.
