Aston Villa (H) Post-Match Thread

They’re still talking about the second goal touching Silva now on Final Score. Sorry was it the winning goal? I must have missed that, I thought we’d won 3-0?

The thing I didn’t understand at the time, and still don’t, is that if Sterling was offside and interfering with play, it didn’t matter if Dave touched it or not. He would have been interfering with Kevs’s shot without a Dave touch.

I wonder if the conclusion of the VAR ref was that he was offside but not interfering with play the long review was to determine if Raz touched the ball because he was very close to it.
Sterling was not offside when de druyne played the ball. Sterling continued to move forward as the ball travelled towards goal and moved into an off side position just before the ball passed or touched Silva foot.

Pleased with the win, although first half you could see where our game is struggling at present and where we are maybe vulnerable. Don't score and the opposition take heart, and perceive us to be weaker at the back so are more prepared to have a go, I feel at least.

That said, the character of the team shone through, as did the quality. Sterling is just fantastic to watch right now.

The referee... Hah. Ok. Let's go there. Man marked Ilkay whenever we were in possession, did a stupid like bunny hop over a through ball that he didn't even need to be in the way of, and overall he and var contributed significantly to reducing enjoyment in a game of football.

It's almost not worthwhile to cheer when we score now, they zap the moment away with var reviews to check every possible way to rule a city goal out. At least it feels that way right now.

Not phased that we lost yet another player to a very soft, if any contact at all, soft challenge as have every faith we can cover it. Despite the fact that grealish got away with several fouls when being on a yellow already. You could see it coming, any city player booked had to watch themselves in any challenges immediately afterwards as they're obviously looking for he opportunity to 'level the playing field'. We must have the most cards to challenges ratio in any to league worldwide.

May do us a favour anyway, when not being a wanker then grealish can actually be a threat, so with them playing Liverpool next may be their best chance of a goal.

Thought the same

However really stupid from Ferna and completely unnecessary

Think it will only be a one game ban as its two yellows and not a straight red.

On the other point - you can see why fans are tempted to jump on the pith and punch Grelish (Though of course I would never condemn such actions) - he is a horrible little shit and you can tell by his reactions to decisions he is full of himself and entitled as well. He cannt hold a a candle to Foden when it comes to ability

Watched Grelish closely today and was impressed with his work rate and commitment. He was clattered a couple of times and just got straight up and carried on.

Watching it myself. Kilbane aghhhhhh fuck off. My love of this game is being consumed by my hatred for the media, the officials, FA, UEFA. Killing me the bastards.

No because he faces a ban it’s counts for next domestic game...
Hasn't the law been recently changed so that yellows/reds only count in the particular competition in which the card was given, so Fernandinho misses the league game. No great shakes either way. Garcia can start on the bench.
