Well, re SM, the wider online debate has been about the extent of the “minor” injury, and that this is the single biggest event of the year so it’s not uncommon for athletes with a minor concern to still turn up, and the fact that in general she races so rarely - Kersee has form for almost ‘hiding away’ his athletes.
There is also the wider point about the profile of a sport which is struggling already and it’s biggest stars don’t rock up for the Super Bowl, CL final etc of the sport.

I suppose what I’m getting at is, that’s the official line yes, but things are a bit more nuanced than that.

Edit. Re Mu, yep, we’ll let’s see if she appears. I’m not 100% on it, but it’s what I read earlier in the week.

yes 19.55 britain time tonight 10k female final.. waiting for it. she was so confident today in 1500 meters qualification also...

She’d be one of my nailed on golds of the week to be fair for the 400 hurdles which is only late in the week so should stay fresh for it.

Don’t get me wrong. They are incredible athletes at elite level. The top guys are walking at nearly 10 MPH.

Put that in context, the fastest 50K walkers don’t take too much longer than 3.5 hours. That would be a respectable marathon time for a runner. And it’s about five miles further and they’re fucking walking. Mental.

I suspect that most have got into the sport by accident, perhaps they have shit themselves and had to waddle quickly home and at that point realised there potential.
Also where do speed walkers train as you never see them out on the streets

but unbeliavable things happend in 10k female and 4*400 women. for dutch :))))))
first sifan hassan fall in the last 30 meters and couldnt win a medal. (she was up front, but she was probably losing in the last 30 meters (a silver 100%). she hit the wall, then fall)
the unbeliavable thing is
same shit exactly happened in 4*400 female. in last 20 meters dutch athlete fall. no gold no medal...
watch it.
there is a curse on dutch for finals... really...

Absolute madness tonight, think there was an invisible sniper in the stands, crazy, never seen top class athlete's falling over near the line before, not once but twice. Bol lucky not to smash her face in really.

YA, İ WAS living in amsterdam in 2010 wc final.. i was with my dutch friends.... spain won...
anyway...
after that, in nl they have argued about '' it is a psychological problem''.. ''why we are not winning the finals?''. that happenedn in 2010.. i dont know if any academecians researched that...

but
what happenedn today... it is obcvious.. they have a mindset problem...(dutch people)

1- sifan pushed too much... she did not want the silver.. then she lost everyhing
2- 4*400 i am not experienced to know about sprinters. but i think same shit happened... she fall

I watch a lot of athletics and occasionally you’ll see that happening but not to leading athletes, just shows you when you’re put under pressure what it can do to you. I too was chuffed for the British, a bit sorry for the other athletes but that’s how it is.
 
not watched athletics since my mum passed as she used to love it but gonna enjoy watching it especially with it being in Budapest. Looks stifling there .
