Athletics Thread

I seem to recall being told you can't have a "World Record" for the marathon race. Because of varying track conditions, surfaces and undulating tracks, you could only have "A World Best". Though that rule may have changed since.

Just finished watching the World relays (it's on the iPlayer, both days) what a breath of fresh air seeing it being held in Botswana in a packed stadium, with the fans going mental, just like a football crowd, absolutely brilliant atmosphere.

The thread's dead

Brilliant performance from Max Burgin to win in Rabat, Hudson-Smith ran a solid race as well.

Rome Thursday, and Stockholm Sunday. Keely is running at both meetings. She is running the 400m in Rome and the 800m in Stockholm.

GHB is running the 1500m in Rome, lots of other British interest at both meetings as well.

A couple of non Brits I'm looking forward to seeing, are Cooper Lutkenhaus who just won the world indoor 800m title aged 17 but is taking on the big boys in Stockholm now. And Cameron Myers, also in Stockholm, who I believe will become the dominant 1500m/miler over the next few years.

Thought Max was really impressive, if he can have an injury free season he could take Coe's British record.

Interested to see Keely's shape with the rumours of a world record attempt in London. I'd like to see her run sub 51 or close to it in the 400m.

Im going to the London DL in July and with Keely running and Josh Kerr going for the mile world record, it could be some day.

Keely could run sub 50 if in top shape, I know that sounds a bit crazy but she ran a 50:1 in the relay at the world indoors, the fastest leg of any runner. Early season she ran a 51:5 indoors in Scotland.

Keely is also going for the WR in London, it's almost impossible but if anyone can she can.
Be interesting to see what time she runs this weekend. She's in amazing shape by the sounds of things so if anyone can do it then its going to be Keely. Exciting times for British middle distance.

It's would be such a shame if the WR does prove to be beyond Keely's grasp.

I read a comment the other day about Kratochvilova. Someone said that she was only taking testosterone because she was having trouble getting an erection.

Gave me a chuckle.

That's made me laugh. Its mental when you see the footage of that run and pictures of her.

I've won 2 tickets to the UK athletics championship on Saturday June 20th at Alexander stadium in Birmingham..... it appears no parking is available any more (you have to pre book). They do not advise travel by car.

Anyone any idea best way to get to there if I park somewhere away from the stadium?

Or, is anyone else interested in two tickets as i'm not sure I can be bothered if its going to be a faff.

Last time I went there we parked Wolverhampton area and got a train in, that was for the Commonwealth Games, but I’ve been lots of times over the years before that when we parked much closer. A shame they aren’t still using that enormous field just to the south of the stadium for parking anymore, that used to be really straightforward - Perry Park.
Just looking now online it seems there’s loads of new tarmaced parking going in there, so no doubt more expensive.

Previously also parked on those residential roads t’other side of the A34 - sort of behind the Towers Inn pub, restaurant if you find that on a map app. It’s a short walk from there.

Thanks for the heads up on this anyway - I’m due there for the last day of the European Championships in August - which I’ve just realised is the same day as the Community Shield!

Thanks for this, just looked at trains from Wolverhampton to Perry Barr which seems to be the closest station and might be the way to go.
