Atletico (H) | CL QF 1st Leg | Post Match Thread

You watch him on Sunday: When we get to these games he shows us his world standing. He did it against United the other week.

He is always going to lose us possession occasionally because he tries things, but those passes/shots create goals when they come off. There is not a cat in hell’s chance he will be left out against Liverpool nor should he be.
Agree with all that. So where do we place him that’s limits the minuses and emphasises the pluses? Up front for me!

This side has become almost completely risk averse. We have 3 players who try something/anything out of the norm and one of those spent most of tonight on the bench. We have KDB, Foden and Cancelo who will actually try to make something happen, without them we would play sideways for 90 mins. I’m all for keeping possession, but at some point you have to try and hurt the opposition and KDB is arguably more integral than he has ever been to making that happen. Until the likes of Sterling, Mahrez, Grealish, Bernie and Gundo turn up and hurt the opposition on a regular basis it is unthinkable that KDB is left out.
A bit harsh that, it's not as if those lads you mention don't make significant contributions in our attacking play. They do as Pep tells them to and they're doing it brilliantly. Well except from Raz when being played on the left side but that's just Peps minor brain damage and I guess we'll have to live with that.

Maybe I wouldn’t play Gundog but I think we have to get Foden and Grealish into the starting line up. We can’t drop Berni or Rodri either

In terms of our ability to keep possession I don’t think Kev makes our strongest 11
Why cant we drop Bernardo whos been out of form since sporting away?

I ain't seen that from them. They may have had a couple of decent performances all season. The rest they should beat. Also they have had some shite results.
I felt when they got the ball tonight ( it wasnt often) that they got themselves into very good positions very quickly. If i get a chance to rewatch it I'll post the match times ie minutes, seconds & which half.

Edit; when we did what they did i.e. passed it forwards, we scored. 3 forward passes and the ball in the net.

He did tonight he was talking to them and covering his mouth would love to know what he was saying, proper got to them.
He may or may not have mentioned Gibraltar.
Or Sir Francis’s man of the match performance v the Armada.

anyway, one - nil at half time and I’m happy with that.

I appreciate it’s easy to get wrapped up in the emotion of the game, but for those who saw the game on telly (a) should we have had at least one pen? (b) should Athletico have had at least one player sent off and (c) was the ref a complete ****?
No to all of those my friend, imho although it's a close call on the ref - as always!
Very glad to get the win.

Kev said this is the first time he's played against a 5/5 formation. He said 'they played with no forwards'.

It sounds like he was as disgusted as the rest of us with the anti-football.

This return leg is going to be fireworks. They will go crazy trying to wind us up. Hope we keep our cool because it could be savage.
