Atletico Madrid | Friendly (N) | Post Match Thread

Didn't see the game, but that was shit. We need to be worried going into a new season with that 11. We were poor. Foden is that overrated he could be a Rag academy product. Dias has too many mistakes in him for a top notch centre back - you wouldn't see Martinez/van Dyke make those simple errors. Haaland needs to get more involved, he got away with it last season because of his goals but it won't cut it in his second season, he needs the same work rate as a Nunez or a Hojlund.

Arsenal will batter us next week. I won't be watching that game either but I'll make sure to put a decent post match report on here......

Well said

He's currently replacing Kev aswell, who is the antithesis of control and given licence to take more risks and create. Thought Phil was fine in that regard anyway today, he didn't lose the ball in dangerous areas.
He neither has the 'control' of Bernardo or ridiculous output of Kdb (yet) he struggles to find Haaland in front of goal at times which is very frustrating. Not saying he wont get there though, I think Pep will opt for Kdb and Bernardo as the two #8s.

Spot on . Sack the board .

I know... just a friendly but it basically settled it for me that Kalvin was a poor decision for us. Too labored in possession, not good enough. Foden coming into his own in a more central role. Worried our lack of quality out wide right will hurt us. Also feel if Walker leaves we'll have an exploitable Achilles heel down that flank that counter attacking teams like Athleti will be drooling to cut into.

Good work out against a decent side
Games like these I'm sure the opponent's are selected knowing what they'll do to us and given our kids some experience of it on a competitive game.

Athleti are one of the biggest clubs in the world for shithousery. Games like that will stand us in good stead. Look at Jack's reaction to it all. He didn't give a fuck and that wound them up more.

With Phillips he’s clearly struggling and lacks confidence atm. He doesn’t particularly seem like he knows his role, but from the awful level he was I do see improvements with his one twos and the understanding of where to be. Fundamentally though the point he’s at now he has to improve his agility a lot. I won’t write him off yet and for the lads sake I hope he turns it round.

It must be an awful situation for the lad as he’s not stupid, he knows %90 percent of city fans slate him and I’m sure any human being would feel that rather personally.
What worries me most about Phillips is his lack of positional awareness. He seems to take up the wrong positions in midfield to receive the ball. For top players that is an instinctive skill. I notice on a couple of occasions he ran towards defenders into tighter space. I think he is out of his depth. I know he can pass the ball but that's not enough.

We were good in the first half with the first team.
