Atmosphere - 2023/24

if you compare the atmosphere for this fixture to a few years ago. It’s miles better. There have been games where you can only hear the away fans.

I think more areas of the ground are joining in and we finally have a good mix of chants. The classic chants are still the loudest, but the newer chants are pretty decent as well.

I still think having one area that has a large number of our vocal fans is needed. It’s too disjointed at times
Yeah a good mix of old and new now.

A lot of the new chants are all very same-paced though. You could release them as a medley in the charts like one of those shit Jive Bunny songs from the 80s that joined up a load of songs from over the decades that had the same tempo to the beat.

Would be good to have a few new songs that are slower, louder, big belted out chants with longer notes to hold the noise so everyone in the ground can hear it this season to go with the other kind of chants. Just for a bit of variety.

Social media has done a right job on our reputation which is hard to shift - not just about empty seats but also about our atmosphere. People literally believe and repeat things that they don’t have the first clue about. Saying that, we need to have regular noise from different parts of the stadium to get close to having best home atmosphere.

Yep, atmosphere, empty seats, cheats, dirty oil money etc. Quite ironic how we went from most people's 2nd team to this. Amazing what a bit of success and jealousy can achieve.

Lost count of the amount of times I've seen the 8-1 Boro scoreline with Michael Ball and the 'City Before Oil Money' picture for example. Or the sarcastic 'fairytale' of our success after spending 2 billion. Obviously neglecting to mention Chelsea have spent half that in a season.

I watch a lot of the Premier League games and most stadiums are like morgues. Ours can be but certainly wasn't yesterday. Less early leavers yesterday too.

Most of football comments sections on social media are filled with United, Liverpool and Arsenal fans from India and Nigeria who couldn’t point to their stadiums on a map saying ‘Emptyhad’, ‘Man City have fans, since when? Haha’, ‘warra atmosphere’…

But like always, fans who actually go to games say thing like this bloke (at 1minute 1second):

…you hear it a lot, people who’ve actually been to our ground and are surprised how good the atmosphere is.

Madrid last season in their press:

Then Bristol City fans talking about our away support:

They always seem surprised.

But no matter how many people are surprised about how good we are, that online trend about our support will never be reversed now. It is online gospel that we have shit fans.

We just have to do our own thing and not worry about some nobody from whatever far flung corner of the world they’re commenting from saying how shit we are.

Moved from east level 3 to 317 in South stand this season, it’s worlds apart - proper impressed with the atmosphere generated yesterday up there.

Looking forward to the rest of the season in a much more vocal area of the ground.
But will you change your username?!

met some Newcastle fans in London back end of last season, nice lads in fairness, but literally every song they sang was songs City have been singing for 5 years. Nothing special about the yesterday whatsoever
