Atmosphere - 2023/24

Thought the atmosphere in the South Stand was very good today when taking the circumstances of the game into consideration. Plenty of singing in SSL1 and 3 although it's difficult to tell from my usual position in 117 how well that has spread around the ground.

Brighton fans singing football in a library after sitting in silence themselves for the best part of 40 minutes
As much as Brighton weren’t great and were unimaginative, we were always going to get that because we didn’t get behind the team all that much in a game we progressively struggled in and needed to get behind the team. Wasn’t too bad but wasn’t a good atmosphere.

I’ve never heard the Etihad as quiet as the five minutes before half time. It was eerily quiet. I nearly took a picture of South Stand Level 1 in that period n’all but I don’t like getting my phone out while the game is going on… half of SSL1 had fucked off after about 40 mins. It was the emptiest part of the ground and it’s supposed to be our main vocal section.

The 1894 lads must pull their hair out at those around them in that stand at times.

And why, when the South Stand does sing and the odd people here and there around the ground join in, do so many around the ground sit there in silence when the team needs a lift?

Unusually quiet today, but with an opposition that only had one song, and a patchy game,
It was to be expected. Lots of day trippers around me today, with a few of the regulars not in attendance.
The lad who used to sit next to me for decades has moved as it’s got too expensive where we sit now.

And yesterday, I had one of these tourist twats next to me who came in late, missed the first goal, didn’t watch a single second of the game because he was on his phone all the time, didn’t celebrate the second goal because he missed it because he was on his phone and gave me an arsey look because I was jumping up and down when Håland scored so I shouted ‘what the fuck are you here for?’ at him.

He didn’t come back for the second half.

Understand being frustrated at others not backing the team, but intimidating a new comer to the extent they leave after 1 half is un called for.

He didn’t leave because he was intimidated by me doing that, he was still there for half an hour after the Haaland goal and me having a moan at him (Haaland’s goal was on 18 minutes), and he was on his phone for the entirety of that 30 minutes messaging people and chatting and laughing on a group FaceTime and I never said another word to him in that time.

Him not coming back for the second half wasn’t related to that incident. It was probably because I was too loud for him to hear his mates on his phone.

Cb3 row 1, half a dozen of em wondering back n forth along the row looking for seats, one pretty sure i was in her seat. Nope… youre 3 blocks along

I dont mind, its where we are at as a club and id rather be here than ‘there’

2 1 up, backs against the wall with 10 minutes of injury time to face, and thousands of fans heading for the exit . Same 10 mins before half time . There will be the usual arguments about freedom of choice and getting away from the ground, but sorry, this is embarrassing and frustrating to see.
