I dont think there are rules for it as Newcastle have it up in the away end,

I've been told the SS3 will be safe standing away fans first then our side, possibly sometime this season.
Where have you heard this? Really hope it’s true. Spend most of the game standing up/sitting down constantly anyway!

Interesting.
I'd be surprised (but not shocked) if they installed safe standing in SS3 for our fans this season. What happens if you have bought a season ticket in SS3 for this season, and don't want safe standing?

Good point. More likely to happen in the off season I’d imagine which would give those that want to move the chance to do so.

Aren't there rules about how steep a safe standing section can be? Doesn't make sense to me, as if fans are going to stand it's much safer to have rails there, but could be an obstacle.

Easy. Switch to this style of rail seat but don't lock them so it keeps them compliant with the license.

Some incorrect figures in your first paragraph there. Capacity is less than youve quoted for champions league games as there are sections covered up. The away end wasn’t sold out in tiers 1 and 2 as well as being empty in 3. I think the unsold seats was in the hundreds, not thousands. The equivalent game 2 years ago had less than 40k. It was also noticeable to me last night that there weren’t many tourists there. They’ll be back.

I suspect this will be the only game of the season (unless we beat newcastle and have a really shit home draw in the league cup) where every seat isn’t sold. We are on a consistently upward trajectory.
Sorry for the delay, I haven't logged in for a while. Point taken, I'm not sure on the exact number of the current away section for PL games never mind CL nights. Anyone know what the reduction used to be on CL nights? I want to say 1k but might be off there. Anyway, I was just roughly estimating and wanted to mention the reduced capacity because some people(anti-city social media clowns, peddling emptihad agendas mostly) haven't taken notice.

I think it's mainly because transfermarkt haven't updated it, which is why I've filled out the form to correct the capacity and emailed them(still no change). It's hard to make the argument that City have one the highest %capacity rates in the league, when those figures have been off for the last 2 and a bit seasons.

Most don't have the attention span to hear the explanation of why the figures are off, you already know how it's going to go: "BS transfermarkt says City were 11th best in 2021/22, 14th best in 2022/23 and they won a treble that season too".

In reality, it should have been around 2nd(98.76%) best in 2021/22 and 2nd(99.72%) best in 2022/23, assuming the other clubs' capacities are all up to date. Either way, those will still be some of the best %capacity rates in the league.

Also, I certainly haven’t heard anyone criticise that attendance as it would be idiotic to.
The commentary did make a comment on the attendance apparently which wound a few blues up. Also, it's idiotic to say City can't fill their stadium or push any Emptihad agendas in 2023 but they still do it in their droves. If you have the figures and estimates to hand, you'd be surprised how many of them shut up and move on. Probably to peddle it elsewhere but if everyone had the answers for them, maybe they'd get bored and stfu about it completely.

Edit: I think you're correct about it being in the 100s, judging by the Dortmund game last season, which was very similar. See below.

We got a similar attendance against Dortmund last season
Yep, 50.44k for that vs 50.2k last week. Dortmund returned around 1.6k of their allocation for that game and there were only around 130 seats left for City's part. According to the seat counters thread(comes in handy after all, that thread). Not sure which club returned more away tickets but for City's part, there couldn't have been more than a couple of hundred home seats left again. It's just a shame that the commentary teams are so hasty to point out any empty seats near the start of the game(people still making their way from the concourse) and don't seem to know where the away section is.
