Atmosphere Thread | 2025/26

I read somewhere that the belief is it was built so the stadium qualifies to host CL finals.
A CL final at the Etihad will never happen. If England get the gig it will be Wembley with almost 30,000 more tickets and far better transport links or the swamp with almost 15,000 more tickets.
Games in Euro 2028 will be our reward and possibly another Europa League final. 60,000 might be great for a Euro Conference final but UEFA seem to reward smaller venues and act confused when teams with decent followings get there.

I did a bit of research a few years ago and loads of clubs across Europe had (at the time of the old 6-match Group Stage) CL Group Stage tickets included as part of their Season Tickets. So fans didn’t have to pay any extra for CL games on top of their ST payments until the KO stage.

Basically, Season Tickets applied to anything ‘League’ based.

Off the top of my head the clubs I remember were clubs like: Madrid Dortmund Milan…

It’s a great initiative and something I feel City have really missed a trick on over the years and now we’ve just lost CL attending ST holders to the tune of 10-15,000, who will be very hard to ever get back attending CL games.

I think Gala and Newcastle might finally be the wake up calls our sleeping and stubborn CEO and Directors need to change or amend their draconian ticket rules and regulations. Because if they don’t there will be more than 17,000 empty seats for some of next seasons home cup games.

Or at the Wembley of the North with a 100,00 capacity.(arf!)

The current capacity of the Camp Nou isjust over 45,000. The stadium is under development, so it was over 95% full.

"It is what it is"... Yes, at the Etihad, a shitshow.

Why do anyone care about attendances? Seems the pressure of people from social media has turned some fans into sheep thinned skinned cry babies!

It is what it is! Soft arse sheep..

Everyone bangs on about cheap tickets, but Exeter was cheap and th

Take it you will miss next seasons home derby and Liverpool games too .
Completeley missing my point but yes I will be there.
If you think the champions league demographic of home fan is the same as our premier league support then you are very much mistaken in my eyes.

One of the more vocal parts of the ground, SSL3, is often handed over to away supporters because it’s near the car park. I am not aware of any other ground in Europe where the home ‘end’ is surrendered and the fans dispersed over the rest of the ground.
It’s a ridiculous situation, and the club need to have a good look at themselves.
SSL1/0 is ok but you can’t hear it in 3. You can’t hear 3 in most of 1.
Put the away supporters high up in EAST 3, one spiral and a fence sorts it.
Concentrate the home fans in their usual seats and things will improve.
Imagine the dippers giving half the kop away? Stretford end? Barca? RM? Bayern, Dortmund? Milan? Even county and the Cheadle end? Come on City directors, stop fucking supporters off just for a few quid.
And put fucking nets around when it’s dippers or euro tossers. Catch their own coins and flares.
OR keep the away fans where they are and try and make something of the new 10,700 seat stand at the other end of the ground.

I’d love to be blase about it, but I really care. I find it depressing watching football in a quiet, half empty stadium. It won’t stop me going though, even if I’m not particularly enjoying it. In times like this it’s important to step up IMO. If everyone jumps ship we’ll be playing in front of 25,000 next.

I certainly don't disagree with you on that point mate! I just think that the club has very steadily turned it's back on local, traditional support in the mad dash to attract punters with fat wallets.

It definitely is what it is; a shitshow that's alienating lifelong supporters.

Well this season saw more half and half scarves at those 2 Premier league games than I've ever seen before .
I'm not into half and halfs but the other side is I don't let it bother me.
And will be going to all the remaining champions league games City play till I die , providing I'm in good health.
I just enjoy watching City play whatever the comp .
It's been done to death why they were many empty seats last night and I agree with many points. But in the main from what I saw they were mainly City and Gala fans in attendance. Didn't see many tourists .
Let's just say all those empties were filled by City fans , the vast majority would have been City not Gala or tourists..
I do think some City fans that don't like the champions league overstate the amount of tourists at these games .
This is not having a go at you by any stretch just my thoughts on the situation.
Up the blues

Agree with all that..

One of the most successful periods in our history and we regularly aren’t selling out. Do you not think that’s an issue?

There’s plenty of examples of blues being priced out as well or unable to get tickets or rows of seats only available on ticket websites.

Forget social media. Surely you want as many blues in the ground as possible. There is clearly something wrong with our ticketing policies at the moment

And where are those supporters now that we aren't as good as we once were? It was always a short-sighted, absurd ticketing policy built on sand that we mere mortals knew wouldn’t last.

Pretty sure the swamp wont qualify now, hence them not getting the euros games. Same for anfield

What annoys me most is that so many mates have given up seasoncards and going to games because of the hassle, the inaccessible nature of modern footy, and the fact decisions are made that aren't in the interests if the match going regulars. I see an empty seats as a lost opportunity to keep Manchester City thriving and central to Manchester.

We were a local club with an amazing fanbase, and now we're still close to that plus something else and alien. And we're mocked because we've shot ourselves in the foot. We've become a gargantuan-sized club for the opposition and social media to laugh and joke at. It's great when we laugh at ourselves, but the same joke by pizza-imitation-suppliers and the People's Republic of Merseyside get tedious and grind enthusiasts down.

City should be looking to build the fanbase to sustain a sudden drop in tourism. We're only one foul social media post away from expulsion from a major national group of citizens.

There is no doubt in my mind why Liverpool, United, Arsenal , Barcelona etc are full and we not.
Anfield is not full of local Liverpool supportes. Its turist and not all of them are die hard Liverpool supportes.

I live in Iceland and I know that the same story goes for Norway and Sweden, Danmark and other europen countries.
tourist come all year arond to Manchester, London and Liverpool. I see ad every day "go to UK and see a football match ", the only teams that get mention in those adds are Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal sometime Chelsea.
Go experiance the atmosphere at Anfield drink it in.

Manchester City is painted a soulless club with no atmosphere a cheats and plastic with half empty stadium.

This has been hammered into people for 15 years , in podcasts, in news and everywere.
For the tourist who are not all in like we are and we have to admit they are the ones who are filling , Anfield and Old Trafford. They see it like going to the movies or theater they read the "review" going to Etihad and it is not good read.

We all know how the Etihad can be as good as any ground in the world for the right games, I was at Etihad for the Aquero moment and I know that not a single Liverpool fan has ever experiance anything like it.

But others dont know that .

The media,#115 and other things has hurt us realy bad and is the main reason why Etihad is not always full.

I know this for a fact I know how City are talked about , I know that people non City fans dont want to go to a City match because they think that its no fun, But I know non Liverpool fan want to go to Anfield because they have been told its such a experiance nothing like it.

City is also to blame, they unlike others clubs we are competing with have no PR nothing.
They dont care if there are empty seats, Liverpool PR hides it when there are empty seats at Anfield wich happenes.

The Rags have people travelling from all around the UK and Ireland to their games. They might go 5 times a season but there’s enough of them going enough times a year to fill that place and then some.

Their local match going support is probably what we got last night. I’ve lived all around greater Manchester and see blues waiting outside pubs for minibuses, at train stations, at bus stops etc. when we play at home. I never see that to Utd.

I only see them arriving in Piccadilly from whatever southern train station they’ve come from.

I recall going to Stoke away and Spurs away, when we were playing same day as them. As I arrived in Stoke and London Euston there were a queue of Rags waiting to go the other way (that we obviously abused).

Our support is heavily reliant on Gt Manchester. And the club has done everything it can to push local fans away.

They should genuinely hire someone off this website and I’m not even joking.

Would like to think that those who decided to skip last night for whatever reason, would make the effort to get there next week against Newcastle, and help the team get another visit to our second home at Wembley.
The boys are not there yet.
Let's all get behind them.
I wasn't there last night..been really bad with a chest infection..got to the wolves game and felt like crap afterwards.. definitely there for Newcastle game..unless I get worse..if what I've had is what Nunes has he did well playing last night..I'm fucking knackered just going for a piss lol.

There were plenty of Gala fans in the home ends. The camera phone lights proved that. There wasn’t any real trouble because City won and Gala didn’t score, thankfully. If Gala had scored and beaten City like they beat United, there would have been hundreds, probably more, Gala fans celebrating the goals and win in the home ends. Bar the documented incidents, City fans and the club got off very lightly last night. It could have been a lot worse.

Your right, the way the game panned out everything went the clubs way last night, covering up their total incompetence, could have been a massive ballooning piss take take like OT v Gala/Rangers
