Attacks in Paris

It's only a matter of time before they are letting their bombs off inside football stadiums rather than outside.

The sad thing is that until we can come to some agreement with the Russians over the future of Syria then the terrorists will continue to feed on the uncertainty.

It saddens me that Muslims are being made scapegoats for the actions of a terrorist group. Most Muslims are very peaceful and go about their business, there seems to be a lot of people claiming how bad Islam is without knowing anything about it. The vast majority are sickened by what is happening, next time you see a Muslim try and engage with them and actually have a conversation and you will see that they are like us human beings.

To be fair to this thread it has come out pretty much that not all muslims are to blame but all to blame are muslim. Nobody has said blame all muslims or any orf the talk you are alluding to. A few of us have read the quran and are quiet aware of it's teachings but in general that is for another thread.
I have met a large chunk of the posters on here and they are normal chaps who will and do chat with anyone. This is not some little britain society bud.

One fella said islam is basically bad juju but that is for another thread also imo.

The fact we get to debate religion here is a a lot more freedom than some people in certain countries are afforded.

Exactly, a feeble attempt at shifting the blame, to something he had no idea if it had any part in the reason for the attack, from the most likely cause given that IS have laid claim to the atrocity. May as well asked if the lad played football and say football violence is the reason for the attack, or that he was abused as a child and that caused it, there could be a thousand reasons why this happened, the most likely is that he was indoctrinated and brainwashed by religious zealots.

No idea on George's religious standpoint, couldn't give a Mick Dundee, I stay away from down here the majority of time... He did however state that he felt bimbo was 'probably' right on the indoctrination standpoint... Anyway, I'm off to play COD (:

We're safe. Thanks for the messages. A friend was at the gig he took a bullet in the leg and got out. Others we don't have news from as of yet. Venturing out now. Bataclan, Petit Camboj, Rue Charonne, all local to me and places we go to almost weekly.
Glad you're ok fella and hope your friend has no lasting damage.

Awful awful stuff.

It's crazy that individuals in Qatar are putting money in considering Isis would love to go on the rampage there with the westernised way the country is going.

The Arabian gulf is a conundrum no one can solve and has probably been a battle ground since the origins of man. You can't bomb an ideal out of someone, keeping Saddam where he was would have kept a lid on it. But would he have still been trying to destabilise the region by threatening to invade Kuwait and gassing the Kurds ?
Do you have proof of that?

It's just as far as I'm aware IS are Rick as they control a fuck load of oil. Qatar's ruling class would stamp down on Qatari sponsorship.

I had the feeling he was trying to defend religion and provoke discussion about a possible link between a 15 year old bomber and video games but that's just me.
Certainly the latter but with great respect defending religion is not a job for the likes of me. I do wish folk with firm atheist convictions would respect those of people of religious faith though. Karen Armstrong has written extensively on the subject of violence and religion which I found helpful in trying to understand what is happening. Here is a link to a article which summarises her views and its concluding paragraph.

"After a bumpy beginning, secularism has undoubtedly been valuable to the west, but we would be wrong to regard it as a universal law. It emerged as a particular and unique feature of the historical process in Europe; it was an evolutionary adaptation to a very specific set of circumstances. In a different environment, modernity may well take other forms. Many secular thinkers now regard “religion” as inherently belligerent and intolerant, and an irrational, backward and violent “other” to the peaceable and humane liberal state – an attitude with an unfortunate echo of the colonialist view of indigenous peoples as hopelessly “primitive”, mired in their benighted religious beliefs. There are consequences to our failure to understand that our secularism, and its understanding of the role of religion, is exceptional. When secularisation has been applied by force, it has provoked a fundamentalist reaction – and history shows that fundamentalist movements which come under attack invariably grow even more extreme. The fruits of this error are on display across the Middle East: when we look with horror upon the travesty of Isis, we would be wise to acknowledge that its barbaric violence may be, at least in part, the offspring of policies guided by our disdain. if the reports are true that one of them passed through Greece as an asylum seeker/immigrant fleeing Syria.....then close the fucking borders. Send everyone of them back.

They said they would do it and they did. I'm not right or left wing, I'm just not stupid. Every single one shipped out by tomorrow morning, dropped wherever and left.

Every dingy or boat after that that lands in Greece gets turned around regardless of consequence. Enough is enough. Europe is already dieing.
