Attacks in Paris

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel stands "shoulder-to-shoulder" with France in the fight against terrorism, and called on "the entire civilized world to unite to defeat the plague of worldwide terrorism." "An attack on any one of us should be seen as an attack on all of us. All terrorism must be condemned and fought equally with unwavering determination. It's only with this moral clarity that the forces of civilization will defeat the savagery of terrorism," he said.

I concur..

RIP Nohemi Gonzalez and others sad sad times we live in..

They haven't as the body was blown to bits, they cannot confirm if the same man who landed is the same man from last night, or if it is a black market passport, for all anyone knows the original owner may have traded it to get across Europe. Wild speculation and rumour so soon after by people (not yourself) playing on peoples fears is just what these bastards want, chaos and fear

So they have positively identified one guy involved - a French citizen from outside Paris - and suspect 3 others were Belgians. Some of the amateur James Bond's on here would be swarming all over southern Greece now looking for clues - clueless speculation more like. As you say just helps give them more of what they want.

The Greeks have confirmed it was the same bloke who came off the boat, sorry to disappoint you but you can switch on your denial mode and just ignore it but it ain't going to change, perhaps 10 pints of snakebite with your student chums tonight might block out the truth though!

The French confirm 1 x French citizen from Paris involved and probably 3 Belgians. Check the map and you will see thats a long way from Southern Greece mate - doesn't fit with your anti-immigrant rant I know but hey the truth can be shit can't it?

By the way I have student kids not chums - I am 55 - don't like snakebite either,

They're probably get their leads and their 'truth' from Twitter and Facebook as we speak.

Well that may be the looking back in history/moral relativism bullshit. You can be Atheist and have intelligent morals and values. Ethical naturalism for example.

Religion is a dead subject for a lot of people.. it isn't an answer to man's problems.. I admit Genocide is 'allowable in some sort of ridiculous utilitarian-knowing-the future-sense.. but it's all delusionary. Another subject altogether, but religion is gonna die, and it'll either be nihilism or intelligent atheistic values that prevail..
Atheists need to face up to the consequences of their convictions like everybody else - or perhaps they don't since they make their own rules. Chris Hitchens was a great man because he was honest about that crucial question. 'Atheist values are a contradiction in terms - there are no absolute values.'

Maybe they have cctv footage taken around the area of the shooting that places the holder of that passport at the scene.

I have watched an awful lot of CCTV footage in my line of work. You may have seen an awful lot from last night. Do you think you could clearly id someone off that and a copy of a passport photo side by side? In my experience its extremely hard to do that in broad daylight with good close ups most of what we have is dark, grainy and not very clear so I doubt it.

The French say so far they have 1 x Frenchman from Paris positively identified and 3 x Belgians a probables - these being 4 of the 7 ( down graded from 8 ) perpetrators. I am not saying that at the end of it they won't find these people won't have been to Syria or elsewhere to train but like as not they will have done so on their own passports using normal airlines.

Yoo many Johnny English's on here playing amateur spy - if you could work it out within 24 hours off bits from the TV why would we need security services?

Some would say (not me I hasten to add but Dostoevsky) that if God does not exist then there is no virtue so why bother? From the atheist point of view morality is a man made construct simply followed to aid the species' survival and there would be little justification for altruism. Genocide could well be the preferred route to preserve access to resources or, like the Nazis, to purify the gene pool.
You have a depressingly low opinion of human nature. If you are doing good deeds because you fear burning in hell I'd question whether you're actually a good person. Most people are perfectly capable of understanding right and wrong, and behaving accordingly, without trying to curry favour with some vengeful deity.

Well Chris didn't speak for all Atheists.. As I said you can be Atheist and hold 'absolute' values.. it's no different to some Christians being vegetarian for example. Atheists (in general) believe there is no absolute morality, but that doesn't mean we can't be intelligent about it.. The Ethical naturalism thing I mentioned makes perfect sense to me..(You can even reach the conclusion that sentience/conciousness creates value in and of itself, so there is your objective morality there. If you are Atheist and follow the logic far enough you reach futility... and it's tough to deal with, but it's a truth for them. Funny how the basic value is the same everywhere virtually.. "do not harm others"
