Attendances

The attendances this season for the lesser games have been disappointing. Many of the games this season have been marketed as 'sold out' by the Club, yet there has still been noticeably large numbers of empty seats in all stands. Given these games had 'sold out', suggesting all the single match tickets had sold out, the problem must be Seasoncard holders not turning up? Why is that? Why buy a Seasoncard and not attend all the games? Especially those at weekends?!

Similarly, especially near me, about 75% of Seasoncard holders don’t bother for Cup games, even the FA Cup which is played at weekends. The number of fair weather fans, or those relocated form the South stand or wherever else, near me in comparison to regular Seasoncard holders for all Cup games is astounding. If you can afford to pay £750 upwards for your Seasoncard, surely you can pay afford £15 and drag yourself to the Stadium for a 3pm kick-off on a Sunday to watch us play Sheffield Wednesday? And before you say it, most of the regulars round me are local!!

I understand the Champions League to an extent because tickets are more expensive and some fans may not be able to afford it, and likewise some may not be able to make it due to games being midweek nights, but for the FA and League Cups there’s no excuse IMO!!
So, in relation to this thread, while the reasons for extending the Stadium are obviously viable from a commercial point of view, the failure of Seasoncard holders to turn up every week could well leave us with egg on our face.

That's just my opinion anyway, not doubt many will not agree!

Talking to someone about seat release in the construction work today - at some point this season we will get a crowd of above 48,000 - our record at the stadium. In just 8 months time we will be watching the mighty blues in front of 54,290 fans. Current estimates of capacity.

I can't wait!

Onwards and upwards.
We lost 2,000 seats in the construction....we're down to 45,500 now

So how do we get over 48k this season?

It would mean either there are more pitchside seats than anticipated, or some of the seating lost during construction will be returned?

Disgraceful post. How do you know what folk can afford? Also some of us are not lucky enough to be season ticket holders anymore and have had to re locate south. Does that make me any less a fan than you? It costs 100 quid to take my lads and me to a league or clamps league match, and that's just the tickets. Unless the club drop prices we have no chance of selling out 54k never mind 60k.
I don't knowing you meant to but you've come across as a right arrogant arse in your post!!!!

What egg will be left on City's face? Given that all the empty seats you talk about have been paid for it won't make 1 blind but of difference to the clubs finances, the only people this will effect, is the paranoid ones that worry about what others may say outside of the club.

Absolutely this.
In fact in a perverse way the empty seats are a symptom of our success. People who can't make all the games are nevertheless paying for a full season to ensure they can go when they can.

Yep quite sure. I'm not talking the big games but against the lesser teams charging 50 for an adult and more annoying 25 for a kid is disgusting. The ground is never full this season for those kind of games, no matter what the club says. We say it's sold out so that we can generate extra money by claiming they've been sold for FFP reasons. I'm not slagging that off. Creative accounting in my view. But I can't afford to take my kids to league games anymore and refuse to pay 100 quid on principle for a shit membership that's gone up 50% in two years. Platini's fault I know, but I know loads of city fans who are family men feel the same and we're loosing young fans from proper city families as a result.

On a slightly different slant, I wonder if anyone has ever looked at the cost of tickets and the broader total cost of going to a game back in the heady days when 70,000 standing spectators was not unusual?

And worked out what those costs were in real terms, and as a percentage of disposable income back then? We all know it was much cheaper, but if the average weekly wage was £16 then that needs to be factored in too.

But I can't help but feel that the cost these days, especially if taking a couple of juniors, is prohibitive for too many people. Sure we will fill out for derbies and the like, but for every game, and sometimes twice a week, you have to be pretty well off to throw that kind of money at watching footy. Perhaps in a way that was not true 50 years ago?

EDIT: I just read the post above! Case in point.
