Agreed -definitely a unique tasteYou really must do at least one Joseph Holts pub. No other beer like it
If going in Sinclairs the Crown and Anchor is very close and a Joseph Holt pub. Football musuem, Sinclairs, Crown and Anchor and cathedral all close to each other. You really must do at least one Joseph Holts pub. No other beer like it
Hope you have a great time in Manchester. It’s a very friendly and lively city. I had a fantastic time in Budapest some years back. I went to watch Honved purely because City had played there in 1970. It was a fantastic day out. Honved were playing a team called Siofuk. We ended up at a party with Honved fans who lived beside the stadium!Quick heads up: you lot made me convince to go to the National Football Museum on Friday, and looking at the pub, I could then just have a walk in the park and check the Cathedral and/or some nearby pub. Someone mentioned the Sinclair Oyster bar, which based on the reviews, is quite a polarizing place. But I'd be nice to try out a beer I never tried yet. And on principle alone, I find the no-phone and classic old school policy interesting.
However, one review says you cannot pay by card, the other says you can... Can you? And even if you do, I guess not with your phone then? :D
(Or even on Sunday, since the museum is open on Sundays, but the library isn't. I don't even know why I am so adamant visiting the library, and already feel bad that I was accused of being posh on here, when I was only trying to be polite to take on the advice to visit the John Rylands too. :D)

No but I love visiting random stadiums where City once played. Budapest would be a great away trip anytime. Shame we couldn’t do those COVID games! You weren't a teenage armchair Honved fan
You can pay on your phone at sinclairs , if weather is OK it's a nice and cheap pub to sit outside.Quick heads up: you lot made me convince to go to the National Football Museum on Friday, and looking at the pub, I could then just have a walk in the park and check the Cathedral and/or some nearby pub. JCL ;)My first ever home game was against Southampton. It was over 40 years ago but I will never forget it. Enjoy your day!
If you haven’t already, book your train asap so youhave a chance of a reserved seat, although it may be too late now. The Birmingham to Manchester train is almost always packed and standing room only, a nightmare journey, hence if you can get a seat booked it massively improves the journey as you could be standing the whole way otherwiseSo, the 3-day prior subscription thingy with Wizzair worked and now I should be in Birmingham on Friday early. Now I have to figure myself out a 2 day accomodation somewhere in the area, that is not a total rip off. :) Should be easy for the weekend, by the sounds of it...
As for train, it looks like CrossCountry is the way to go straight from Birmingham to Piccadilly.
I actually booked a Stay Inn in Stockport. I love to walk anyway, so I might just do that on a matchday too, as I'd explore the city (or a pub or two) a little on my way anyway and only use public transport on Sunday. And I'm afraid I really need to visit the library now, as the internet says it's a 15 minute walk from the accomodation.Motel Ones in the City centre may have good rates. Otherwise, the Ibis near the New Islington canal is also good - handy to go to the stadium.
If you find that prices are extortionate (which can be), try in Stockport... frequent trains to Manchester Piccadilly and it only takes 10 minutes (or less). Bus 192 (and 197 as well?) also available, 2 pounds for a single ticket, but it takes longer :-)
Get the train to Lime St, There's loads of bus stops around Lime St to bring you to Liverpool Airport. Don't pay for a taxi it's very expensive, Liverpool Airport is a fair bit out from the City Centre. And managed to buy my ticket for Sunday back to Budapest from Liverpool. What is the best way to get to Liverpool airport from Piccadilly? Northern Rail / East Midlands Rail and then bus, as Google suggests?
Doesn't then Liverpool South Parkway make more sense? That is nearer to the airport, and it's one stop before Lime St station.Get the train to Lime St, There's loads of bus stops around Lime St to bring you to Liverpool Airport. depends on how many buses go direct to the airport from there as opposed to Lime Street I would have thought?Doesn't then Liverpool South Parkway make more sense? That is nearer to the airport, and it's one stop before Lime St station.
The bus from Liverpool parkway to the airport takes an age, but the buses are every 10 minutesDoesn't then Liverpool South Parkway make more sense? That is nearer to the airport, and it's one stop before Lime St station.
