The passing and patience is just so much better with him and Stones back there. They both have a level of confidence in there passing ability that Kompany and to a lesser extent Ota lack.

I think Ota' is a superior passer in between the lines to either, but he doesn't have the comfort on the ball either John or Eric possess. Capt. Komp is just inferior in every respect. Albeit he may still be the best physical specimen still.

I've been impressed with how solid he's been in duals. I like how he's kind of developing this patented chase down slide tackle too. He might have done it two or three times in this game alone. I know on one he kept it in play and in perfect position too. It was pretty lovely. Can't believe I'm falling for this guy. I was hater numero uno :P

World class performance yesterday against their much-hyped front three. I liked how he was positive and pro-active dealing with Salah, he didn't let him get too much time on the ball which was happening in last season's matches.

He's deceivingly quick. Goes about his business under the radar but he's as good as Van Dijk just doesn't get the media attention.

Aside from that one moment in the second half when Salah nipped in around him which had me panicking, the guy is a rock. Him and Stones should be our foundation for years.

It’s hard to call someone who just won the World Cup an idiot, but Deschamps is quite clearly a complete fucking idiot if he thinks Sakho and Zouma are better than Laporte

This lad is looking more and more like Dave Ewing in his pomp. Solid, defensively majestic, and just an all-round colossus! Big Dave ne'er played left back so just don't ruin the Big Man by playing him out there in Mendy/FabulousDelph/Zincky's wilderness!

I’ll say it again. You can understand now why Pep was patient enough to try to sign this guy at the second attempt and why we went for him in last January’s transfer window, even though - for whatever reason - he’d earlier turned us down. I think he and Stones in partnership will be the envy of many rival managers for years to come.

I was gushing on him after the game so not really a criticism but I would like to see that long diagonal ball he used to play at Bilbao, its a thing a beauty!

He has done it a couple of times this season already,he'll only do it when he is sure it'll get there or he'll just be handing the ball over

Really glad we went back for him,we can move on from vinny without as many tears now,pep wants vinny to stay next season as well so plenty of time to get eric and john to mature into a great unit together

I've been critical of this guy so far this season I think he has made positional errors at times, however this being said he was immense at Anfield but I do think both he & Stones benefited from the deeper formation they were well protected as opposed to our usual attacking play which often leaves them last man.

Let's hope to see this guy go from strength to strength.

Very good again today. You can see him growing every week, was bossing Kompany and Fernandinho about in the second half.
