So why do we go and spend +40 million to buy another CB when we already spent +70 million on Mangala & Otamendi ?

Pellegrini and Txiki believed they'd be good purchases for the Pellegrini team, and probably hoped they'd stay a long time. That's completely irrelevant now.

Everyone believed in Mangala & Otamendi at that point. But they couldn't cut it in the prem. It's disappointing I know, but we need to fix the problem nevertheless. Pep is probably gonna be here for 3 years or so, and it would make sense if he doesn't want to be patient with some of the players, so maybe you cannot expect him to suddenly make Mangala a decent passer.

He's got a point to be fair. Lots of individual mistakes, uncomfortable on the ball, diving in, absolutely twatted by Spurs, Liverpool and Southampton, Otamendi spending more time on his arse than his feet, Mangala with the control of a Labrador with a balloon ...

Having midfielders who play between the lines, failing to be picked up by our own midfielders, exacerbated the problem and made our defenders look silly time and time again. Of course they can be improved but no team will look solid if midfielders do not track runners who are pouring through on your defence.

Very simple to blame the back two. What protection were they afforded ? was it simply down to them that we got a hiding in those games .
