Aymeric Laporte

Wouldn't bracket him with Sanchez and Alves in pissing us about for a bigger payday.
They were experienced pros playing the transfer game whereas AL was just a kid, carrying an injury, being asked to make a big change.
He probably is mature enough now and if he's likely to improve us we should consider him.

Where does this we don't go back in for targets thing come from?

we went back in for
fernando
mangla
delph
all who we originally never got in when originally tried
also went back for sanchez

this lad is young and last minute became hesitant at moving abroard/leaving his comfort zone, he is a year older now and maybe ready
If a talent is good enough our owners are business savvy enough to look past an indiscretion imho.

Maybe that's what his recent comments about us were, about, saying publically sorry.

Not going back is supposedly a Guardiola thing, so none of the players you mentioned are at all relevant to the idea that he doesn't go back once someone has turned him down.

This would really streghten us. Centre backs would be sorted for a few years and further LB cover if it ever gets this bad again.

Walker, Danilo - VK, Ota, Stones, Laporte - Mendy, Delph - Solid depth and you could really play any combination.

Pity this probably wont happen

Does anyone know if he can play LB as well?

Yes he can, though it's been a while. He played there on several occasions between 2012 and 2014 for Athletic Bilbao. Hard to judge because he was extremely young/raw at the time, just breaking through, but from what I've seen wasn't unable to handle the position at all.

That said, I'd say given how we use LBs, he's almost certainly better suited to playing up the middle as a CB. He's a left footed John Stones, favoring control, pass accuracy and possession over pace. I'd put him a step or two ahead of Stones currently on defensive duties and suggest he's about equal on everything else. The two would be a perfect, long term centre back pairing IMO.

Since Pep arrived

I can't see Pep still being that myopic surely? Doesn't benefit anyone. He's mature enough to know young people change their minds and have different motivations. If so, fair enough, but I can't see the point of it.

You heard anything on this Steven?

Think it would depend on his reasons, if he turned us down and gone elsewhere then I could see Pep being annoyed. If it was out of loyalty to Bilbao for helping through is injury or just didn't feel ready to leave Spain I think Pep would respect that.

Hope this is true, would make much more sense than Evans on many levels.

maybe that's why the delay in the Evans signing ...as his deal was pretty straight forward and WBA were open to selling him.

hope we get him
