Hasn't it already been mentioned that Laporte can play as a DM as well?

If so going into next season with Denayer, Kompany, Laporte, Mangala and Otamendi should be more than enough options.

That should account for Vinny's injuries and both Denayer and Laporte can play in other positions.

Im lucky enough to have never dislocated anything, but a mate of mine did his shoulder once, and following that it used to come out on a regular basis. A dislocated ankle for a footballer, must be a massive worry. will it ever heal properly?

Bilbao are never keen to sell any of their players. They have never ever sold players for a penny less than the release clause under the current president. Bilbao would be more than happy to keep Laporte. Extremely stubborn club.
I would definitely let them keep him for a while before signing him having seen that injury.
This boy will be out for a whole season or there abouts. May even finish him off.
No way should we be paying his release clause at the moment. Massive massive risk.

We'll just agree to disagree then

the board is not stupid to buy a player who will be out for a good year.... They will know everything about this injury

Instability (or repeat dislocation) is not the problem with ankles. It's the ligament damage and risk of damage to the surface of the joint itself that's the issue. At least 60% of fractures with ankle dislocation will develop arthritic features on X-ray within 5 yrs of injury.
It's a very serious injury and no way should we be signing him whist he is convalescing.
It would be madness!

I've never seen Laporte play in midfield. He did, however, play at left back a few years ago though.

I hope we are not spunking another fortune on a defender unless we are really really sure
Well the "spunking a fortune" part, we are definitely doing. The "very sure" part is still an unknown. But if it helps I think the kid is pretty good. :)

Still don't see the need in this transfer unless we play 3 at the back or sell Mangala. Denayer/Kompany/Otamendi/Mangala is fine, and enough has been spent on CB's - this will be another risky £40m that could have been spent elsewhere IMO. We could end up about £70m down on a keeper & CB that seem unnecessary signings (don't care how much we spend but there is a limit & if we miss out on other players in key areas (i.e. CMs/fullbacks) because of these transfers then I'm not sure they're so wise).

He may be good on the ball but if we don't get our CM targets in then he'll be just as useful as Mangala hoofing it long to Aguero.
Think I`ll let Pep be the judge of that so don`t worry your tiny mind about it.

It's not beyond the realms of possiblity that we'll play a back three.

Otamendi Kompany Laporte, Sagna, Mangala and Denayer's a pretty decent choice.

I think given his age its worth the risk, i've not seen much of him but for him to be 1 of Pep's number 1 targets speaks volumes
Pep has an average to poor history buying CBs though. That said, I personally like this kid.

Yes if we go 3 at the back then the transfer makes more sense, or like I said we offload another defender. Personally believe it's Pellegrini's system that makes our CB's look so poor & a change of said system would prove to make a large difference in how good they appear rather than a change of personnel.

His purchases of Pique and Mascherano have won 2 champions leagues with fantastic defensive records so I think we can look past the occasional bad apple. Besides I can only think of Chygyrniskiy who was really a poor buy.
