They have repeatedly stated that they have over £100 Million cash on deposit. They may conclude that it makes more sense to invest in the playing squad in January than to lose out on a top 4 place in the Summer which would be catatstrophic, but finding such players is very difficultm27 said:Even if they had that money (which they don't) they will be out of the title running by January and January signings are rarely a success in the season that they are bought anyway.
They will be 4th when when the window opens and they will finish 5th.

Before you all laugh, something's gone on behind the scenes and I honestly don't think Ferguson has made the whole thing up. It's very bizarre. Rooney to change his mind like that speaks volumes really, and has just left me wondering whether they've got a potential buyer! Eek! x

It would be very foolish to write them off just yet. Even if their better players are coming to the end of their careers they know how to win. Us and Spurs may have better squads but we don't yet have what they have. They have an average player like O'Shea who has won several Championships over here. They have issues when Scholes and Giggs call it a day but I will say with some confidence that 4 teams will not finish above the scum.

The Glazers can only sell, due to their other commitments, if they get >£1.5B this is way in excess of the true value, on top of that the team probably needs £100M+ so only a really mega rich buyer with a lot of spare cash can even contemplate. There is also the issue of Slur Alex Fergiscum and how much longer he has left. So all in all i doubt your theory
kramer said:Back to Rooney. They have obviously made him promises and I reckon they can no doubt spend about £20M a year there will be no bond costs to finance next year plus the sale of a few players here and there will give saf some money to spend but as I said earlier they need about £100M to refresh a squad that has ben ageing also doubt they will have the funds to pay the salaries that the players then need will demand

WAYNE Rooney’s stunning decision to stay at Old Trafford pocketed him a pay hike of £50,000 a week – and earned Sir Alex Ferguson a £60m transfer kitty.
Shocked Manchester United fans were celebrating last night after Rooney’s dramatic U-turn saw him pen a new five-year deal to stay at the club.
Rooney has signed a contract worth £140,000 a week, making him the highest-paid star in the club’s history.
The staggering deal will see the England hitman trouser a whopping £33.6m plus bonuses and add-ons until 2015.
But Starsport understands that the clinching factor in Rooney deciding to pledge his future to Old Trafford was a promise from the Glazers that Fergie would be given the funds he wanted to make at least two big-name signings before next season.
Top of Fergie’s list are Inter Milan’s Dutch ace Wesley Sneijder and Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko.
United announced the news at lunchtime after Rooney had apologised to his team-mates and Fergie.
Rooney, who is expected to return from his ankle injury at Manchester City on November 10, said: “I am signing a new deal in the absolute belief that the management, coaching staff, board and owners are totally committed to making sure United maintains its proud winning history.
“That is why I joined the club in the first place."
