Howmany false promises do the rags have to break before people realise they are flat broke.
They LOST £80 million last season so assuming that revenues aren't going to rise by that much this season they will lose a similar amount again, so out of £80million losses where do you find £60 million to spend ?
They are in deep sh*t they were stuck between a rock and a hard place with Rooney either don't pay him the money and they lose a valuable asset or do what they've done and pay him the money they can't afford which then means they are going to have to pay existing squad members or new signings the same amount driving up costs. This, when you are already losing £80 million a year ! They're like a gambler who's taking on big losses and chasing the loss with desperate bets in an attempt to claw back their losses. Inevitably that always ends in tears.
As someone said earlier, if they were planning to invest why make signings like Smalling, Little Pea and Bebe in the summer ?
With Giggs, Scholes, Van Der Sar, Neville and Ferdinand on their last legs that's five players they need to spend on just to stand still.
Its clear Rooney just wanted the money and he knows that if things go South then the Rags will just sell him and he benefits again no doubt by taking a percentage of the transfer fee. He also then goes with the Rags blessing and won't face the hatred if he himself had jumped a sinking ship.
They have to keep making the right noises about being the biggest club in the world tm, we can compete with the biggest clubs etc to keep their fanbase from mutiny. It is funny watching the rags desperately trying to keep the sinking ship stable.
