Pornhub removes all user-uploaded videos amid legality row​

Adult video site Pornhub has removed the majority of videos by suspending all unverified uploads, amid a row over illegal content.
Mastercard, one of the world's biggest payment providers, pulled support for the site last week over the scandal.
A New York Times report had accused the site of being "infested" with child-abuse and rape-related videos.

Interesting that rape victims having their videos reuploaded by users over and over wasn't enough to make them act, but Mastercard and Visa threatening to pull support suddenly did.

I read that New York Times report last week and it's well worth a read. I'm not sure I agree that the site is full of child-abuse and rape-related videos though. They seemed to mainly base that on the fact that they got search results for particular terms, even though the videos didn't necessarily contain the things they searched for. But some of the stories of abuse victims reveal why this is probably the right move.

But this idea that Pornhub is like Youtube for porn never sat right with me. Youtube might have a lot of copyrighted content on there too, but plenty of people actually make their own videos and post them. I wonder how many non-verified accounts on Pornhub are actually posting stuff they made themselves, with the full consent of everyone involved, and how many are just resharing other people's content that they downloaded (another criticism of Pornhub, because they make it easy to download, meaning that abuse videos have often already been downloaded hundreds of times before they're actually taken down, and just get uploaded again and again).

Strangley enough wanking was about before the internet and tube sites.

That NYT report was quite an eye opener tbf, the tube industry is rife with dodgy content and little controls.

I don't know why Pornhub was so popular. Most of it is rubbish, so a friend told me.
He also says there are much better sites if you research them.

Honestly, with the sheer amount of revenge porn on these sites, it is only a matter of time before they got in massive legal trouble.
