Ballet on ice .

I was there. Fucking freezing but what a game. City gave Spurs a goal start but turned the game round with a fantastic display that made a mockery of the conditions. How they managed to keep their feet let alone play such exhilarating football was amazing. My mates and I were on a high and we half walked, half slid down Princess Road on our way back to Chorlton. We had two rags with us that day and in fairness they were hugely complimentary about City's performance. On the early evening ad for MOTD Kenneth Wolstenholme urged viewers to tune in, describing it as one of the best ever Matches of the Day. Strangely, at the time it was more often referred to simply as Spurs in the snow rather than the ballet on ice.

I was there with my older brother. For some unknown reason we were in the Platt lane end. It so was cold we both bought a Bovril and a Wagon Wheel from one of the lads who used to walk around the ground with a cart (as they did back then) and we ate the Wagon Wheels and took of our shoes, put the wagon Wheel wrappers over our feet and put our shoes back on!

I know for a fact my Dad went to this game as he did every game home and away the season City won the title 1967-68. I'll ask him tomorrow and see what he remembers although he's 70 now so it's hard for him to recall a lot of it.
I think this was the season before our title winning season.

the game was only played becouse mot cameras were there.it was the game that convinced people we were genuine title condenders

It was definitely the title-winning season, even my memory hasn't got that bad in 44 years!

He's right mate. It was a crucial win in December 1967 on the way to winning the title in May 1968.

I was not there as I was only 1 day old. However I do have the official programme (first match in my lifetime and all that). I've seen the footage many times and I still can't believe the how beautifully we played in such terrible conditions. A game of football could not be a more fitting title.

Summerbee headed a goal, and I was amazed - canna remember him doing it again. Pat Jennings was brilliant, but for him it was 7-1 at least. I remember Neil Young gliding elegantly through the Spurs defence till Dave Mackay brought him crashing to the icy ground, and I thought he would be broken into little bits but he just got up and carried on as normal. One of my very favourite players.
The snow was so bad I nearly didn't go as I thought it would be called off, but I'm glad I did. And it starred on MotD.

Yes it was the title winning year, we played west brom away and at home over the Xmas period soon after, got beaten both games a guy called dick kryzwicky played brilliant for w brom that was a real stunner after the spurs game.

What a great game....any memories of the day, other than it was flippin' freezing...
