Barcelona Players

La Masia is not just arguably the best academy in the world, but also a very interesting academy in how it promotes its youth to the first team; La Masia can be be looked at as flawed.

If you read Graham Hunter's Barca book, he mentions how the likes of Pique and Fabregas get to the age of 16, get bored at academy level because they are scoring ridiculous amounts of goals and winning games by cricket scores, these players cannot sign professional contracts until the age of 18 and struggle to make the Barca first team because there is no room. That is why the likes of Arsenal and United came in to snap up the players mentioned an offer them good money and first team football.

Whether La Masia can generate and carry on such a great golden generation of talent remains to be be seen, but currently they have such a pool of talent that they just cannot all be promoted to the first team. There are some absolute pre - world class kids in their academy waiting for their chance, but with the likes of Iniesta, Messi, Xavi, Fabregas etc.. It is hard to break through!

I can definately see some La Masia scouting being put in place now we have FS and TB on the board, some of them kids at La Masia are by far good enough to make first team football in the Premier League!
Thanks Sam for the mention of the Barca book. Hadn't heard of that before. Just downloading it on my kindle for my son and I. Just read a review and looks very interesting.

I certainly wouldn't mind 'Cheeky' acquiring some of those younger Barca players.

No problem mate, Graham Hunter is a very interesting bloke to listen to when he speaks about Barcelona.

I agree mate, I cannot see us not going in for some Barcelona prospects now we have FS and TB, Spain just seem to produce gold dust at the moment and La Masia is at the center of that production.

don't really want any of their big names (apart from a couple, messi is one of course) as they are getting on a bit, and i believe they are, as a squad, declining from where they were a couple of years ago.

they haven't really had any academy graduates recently, i don't rate Tello so don't want him. even their new purchases such as sanchez and song I'm not keen on. alba and fabregas would be brilliant signings, but they have only just gone their so they won't leave for a while.

don't want any more over-the-hill 'Maicon' type signings

Oh really, will he now?

Would of course be lovely, but Pedro will stay put for a while longer than so I'm afraid.

-- Wed Oct 31, 2012 6:22 pm --

This something you can confirm K10? or is just something you think will happen?

Be a lovely. much needed signing imo. Very good player who would improve our first 11 and provide width.

Sanchez has been linked with Spurs.

That will never happen

It might though, if anyone is going to make way for Neymar it will be him.

Plus, I don't think he is a Barcelona player, Pedro is getting game time over him and even an ageing David Villa is put in the team over him.

Barcelona will sell at a loss and move on in my opinion - I think he will be at either Spurs or Liverpool.

if sanchez was to leave barca he would not go to liverpool or tottenham, he is too good for both of them, better teams would be in for him.

The rumour has it that it was Sancehz' agent who approached Spurs, which indicates that Barca might be willing to sell him in Jan.

Depending on what sort of price they'd be selling him for, we'd be back in for him IMO

Neymar will join after WC so doubt they'll sell him in January. More likely Villa to leave. His contract will expire after WC and he's already 32.
