You can if it was in the condition of those deals that they get the sponsor money only if they get to the last 16 in champs league..
Id say that is just the terms of the deal and standard stuff. This tweet is suggesting they get totally pulled. I would imagine the truth is they just get less for being in the Europa.

That could be a mixture of 'lost in translation' and wishful thinking from a Madrid friendly media source?

If I recall their summer transfer business was a shit or bust strategy to do significantly better on field to drive revenue.

Wonder how its going....
They spent (if they’ve even paid it yet, which I doubt) £55m on someone who didn’t really stand out at a relegation fighting Leeds.

They’re mental!

So that’s five of the twelve teams originally signed up to the Super League (Barcelona, Juventus, Atletico, Manchester United, Arsenal) not in CL knockout rounds. AC Milan and Spurs also firmly in the balance going into the final round.
The European Bobbins League would have been more apt. And it highlights why they all wanted it.

They’ve lost their grip on the reality that a football club’s place is not fixed forever.

No club is ‘meant to be’ always a top club. If they were, the likes of Aston Villa, Sunderland, Everton, Athletic Bilbao, Genoa, Pro Vercelli, Nurnberg, Shalke etc. would all be on about 35 titles and 8 European Cups each. And the likes of Liverpool, United, Barcelona, AC Milan, Juventus, Bayern München etc. would never have won owt.

Or even more accurately, football would still be an amateur sport dominated by the likes of Wanderers, Royal Engineers, Oxford University and Old Etonians.

You forgot Borussia Moenchengladbach.

I Nurnberg had 9 titles and Shalke 7 before Monchengladbach won their first.

Although Dynamo Dresden had also won a lot in the East German championship.
