Bayern Munich (A) | Post Match Thread

Gutted we didn't hold on for the win, and Ake injury is a worry.

Dias stepped up second half and we showed plenty of smarts.

Thought Rodders, Kev and Gundo were well off it tonight?

C'mon City!

Accoring to Sam Lee, Rodders pulled a muscle in the warmup.. so he played a full game with that.

Yep hopefully Ake's injury isn't too bad.. felt like he felt something pull up instead of a full tear.

How could you do that to your poor old mum? That's cruel and inhuman punishment!
We're on again Friday night in the Point. The only time I ever want to be in the cheap seats! And what's worse myself and the wife are on the most recent DVD waltzing to the Blue fucking Danube!

It was rather easy after all. Some long shots and dangerous crosses form the left but that was it.
3rd consecutive semi final appearance in CL. Even if we don't get it even now it's a big achievement anyway.

Along with being in semi-finals in FA CUP as also we are in for the championship too, it's already a successful season.
Of course if we are left with 0 trophies would mean a failure but generally speaking we are doing more than fine. And perhaps we will not end up with 0 :)

A big concern is fatigue right now in Premier League, as Arsenal had 10 days to rest while we had Bayern and Sheffield so no rest at all. I hope this doesn't play any role. :( And what lineup against Sheffield? Rodri in? Haaland in? Silva in? KDB in? Dias in? Too many questions. I prefer to risk and rest these key players for Arsenal.
Arsenal play Friday - so not 10 days rest

I posted this in Ref Watch, but am I the only one that is convinced that Tuchel was trying to get sent off pretty much the entire match?

I reckon he wanted it to happen in the first half, probably hoping it would put his team in to siege mode, and also help him avoid rightful criticism of his managerial performance since taking over (because PASSION!).

Absolute Klopp shithouse tactic.

I actually commend the ref for not giving him what he wanted until it didn’t matter any more.

Job done, but we were living by our wits at times.

Limited opportunities for both teams, but we were under the cosh for much of the game.

Their speed on the wings and tenacity at closing down in the middle of the park created problems for us. We are not a strong, scrappy team and it put us under pressure most of the game.

Haaland’s penalty miss felt ominous, because I felt Bayern were capable of grabbing a couple of quick goals at any time. However, it didn’t play out that way, as they could not find the last pass or were reduced to shots from outside.

Defensively, we were very good…WHEN WE DIDN’T GET CAUGHT BRINGING THE BALL OUT! Their press was very good in the first half, which smothered us a bit, but we improved dramatically in the second half.

In the first half, I felt like Gundo was a passenger and Bernie was turning in too many circles and getting caught on the ball. Again, that improved in the second half.

Haaland took his chance well, but fluffed his lines twice. That needs to improve, harsh as that might sound. We are in “one chance, one goal” territory in this competition!

Stones & Dias were immense through the middle of the defence, but for me, KDB & Grealish were the brilliant pressure relief valves we needed at times.

It’s very, very hard to complain about a 1-1 result at the Allianz Arena when you’re bringing a 3-0 win with you from home. In anyone’s book, THAT IS A GOOD CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QF PERFORMANCE, no matter how one might feel about individual quality.

We went into a Lion’s Den and slayed the Lion! Getting the first goal (for both teams!) was vital. When Haaland missed his penalty, it felt like that opportunity was lost, but he made up for it later…which is what all good strikers do!

Job done! Now, win a couple of SFs, beat Arsenal at home, and ALL THINGS BECOME POSSIBLE!

Rest up, lads, Wembley is going to feel like a big pitch and SUFC will chase everything!!

True, thought we closed Sané out quite well, he was the obvious threat from the first leg, strange decision to switch them half way through first half trying to get a tune out of him. The obvious problem like you say was no Davies behind him, by the time Tuchel realised that the game was done
I was hoping for a telling performance from Cancelo, so we can sell him! I really don't want that miserable fuck back here.

They kept switching Sané & Coman in an effort to find a way through us, but we stood firm & dealt with everything they threw at us...

A proper professional & grown up performance...

Totally agree with this.
He knew the tie was over and thought by showing over exuberance/passion would endear him to the fans of his new club.
All seemed very staged
