Bayern post match thread

Looking at our performance last night, it is clear that had we not been hampered by FFP restrictions, we would have obtained better cover for Zabba, Yaya and Sergio. The options of Sagna, Lampard and no-one will not help us at this level.

Oh well, we can still top the group and only have a 1 goal difference to make up in the reverse fixture.

You hope to improve every season don't you, to make improvements.

But when you look at the side we put out last night, it was not an improvement, it was worse. The key players who could have made a difference - Mangala, Zabaleta, Fernando, Jovetic and Negredo - were all not ready, not available or not here.

Throw in a number of poor to dreadful individual performances and the result last night is predictable. Yes we might have sneaked a draw or even a win, but that would put an unrealistic gloss over it. If we replayed the match 10 times with the same line ups and performance / effort levels, we'd lose 8 or 9 of them.

The obvious reality is we are still quite a way short of the very best sides. Hopefully our new signings (and Jovetic) can make a difference.

We didn't play as well as i thought we did at the time of watching last night. I thought we were naive and in some ways stupid. Yaya needed to get off that pitch after an hour, he was doing absolutely nothing at all yet we waited and waited and then took Nasri (fair enough, did work hard defensively, lacked something overall though) off, then Edin off for Kun (why not for Yaya then?) and then stupidly took Navas off instead of Yaya and they scored from the posuition Navas would have been defending in.

Ridiculous decision not to take Yaya off!

I'm not too bothered that we played 442, we did okay defensively with it for spells, and bringing Milner on was the right thing to do. But we needed to get Yaya off and get whoever came on to close Alsonso and Lahm down more. However I don't think we exerted any pressure on Bayern for anymore than thirty seconds to a minute in the second half. With the ball, we were pretty in certain areas but too nice, not ruthless enough and nowhere near threatening enough.

We're too fucking nice!

We should have had a penalty! but overall I think that loss was our own fault through being scared to/not being allowed to sub Yaya and not being forthright enough in possession!

Sagna had a shocker with the ball, Nasri worked hard but was ineffective with the ball, Yaya made it seem like we had ten men in the seind half (he was a disgrace!).

There's been plenty of games in the past where Yaya has been a shadow of his usual self and I've resisted criticising him on here. Namely due to the fact that sometimes players simply have an off day and when that occurs with Yaya it looks like he is disinterested and lacking in basic effort because he has such a languid way about him.

But you're right mate, last night disgrace is the right word for him. Let's see if he atones v Chelsea. If not - because he is hardly pulling up trees so far this season - we have to assume Cakegate is an unresolved issue and maybe some time out of the team is the way forward.

Pretty sure a lot of the personnel and tactics in our first few games are because of the World Cup and players coming back late. Also, last season we had far too many muscle injuries and long term he is doing the right thing with the likes of Aguero.

As a result though, we are giving our opponents a head start in the competitions we're in but I'm sure we'll be firing again in the near future, hopefully starting Sunday.

I thought we did a good containing job rather than a good performance. Of course we aren't going to get a load of chances at Bayern but I simply cannot remember when Neuer even had to make a save. That is what concerns me the most. Our lack (after 3 yrs) of grasping the game by the scruff of its neck and taking it to them. They seemed to have so much time on the ball.
Nasri and Sagna were terrible imo.
Ferna,VK and MD were our best performers along with Joe.
I know the games against Roma and cska are the ones that will decide our fate but our form early doors this season has been quite worrying. It's like we need a goal to see the confidence flow through the team.
I cannot see us winning this tournament until we mentally adapt to the pressures of the european game

Said it in the summer when his cocksucking agent and him cooked up the terrible shite they did about Sheikh Mansour - he can go for me. We should've sold him in the summer. The fact we didn't probably has more to do with our FFP restrictions and Everton wanting 50 million pounds for Barkley. However I bet sat up in the stands watching last night Soriano, Begiristain, and Pellegrini were all thinking the same thing.

We need to get rid of this guy.

Manchester City - Deja vous all over again ? no better in Europe than when we started 4 years ago ?

After the defeat last season at Anfield and the home draw with Sunderland I did think City had blown it and reverted to 'Typical City' with a re-emergence of 'Cityitis' with non known cure from Doctors Pellegrini, Khaldoon or Mansour. To my delight and surprise via a slip up from Liverpool (no Gerrard pun intended) and failings from Chelsea, we grabbed the chance and went on to win the League, and I began to think maybe I was wrong. However the start to this season and in particular last nights poor performance (we got away with even less than we deserved, and all those Joe Hart doubters should think again) makes me think I was correct in regard to the following:

1) We are still not a great team and as yet may not yet be quite the best ever City team
2) We are no further on in regard to competing with Europes' best than we were 4 years ago when we started (get the feeling this campaign is looking similar to what we had with Mancini). Have we progressed at all in Europe and how will the owners feel about what they have seen ?
3) Fernandinho is not good enough, no better than Barry or Milner and very costly at £ 30 million
4) Nasri slows our game down and is again (despite moments of very good play in some games) not good enough if we want to be the best in Europe
5) Dzeko turns into Mr Hyde yet again (again despite moments of very good play in some games)
6) Yaya Toure can go missing in lots of games and when he does, he alongside Fernandinho leaves a great big hole in our midfield. I believe Central Midfield is where we are weakest
7) Clichy is not good enough and Kolarov also not good enough at the very top level
8) Navas blows hot and cold (more cold than hot)

and worryingly now, I have noticed that David Silva (who is an excellent player) and who many fans rate as better than Colin Bell, can go missing in the very big games.

On the plus side we have :

a) Joe Hart (he will make errors from time to time as all players do, just as Ageuro may miss gilt edged chances, but he never lets it affect him and is a very good keeper, better than Joe Corrigan and now only behind Swift and Trautmann as Citys' best ever keeper)
b) Pablo Zabaleta (a defensive rock)
c) Vincent Kompany (only behind Tony Book as our best ever captain)
d) Sergio Aguero (a modern day Franny Lee)
e) and David Silva (can be magical when on more regular form)

who could form half of a great side

and I like what I have seen thus far of Fernando and hope Mangala can prove a good partner to Kompany

On the negative side:

a) Dzeko and Toure are not consistent enough to make us a great team
b) Fernandinho was £ 30 million poorly spent
c) Our centre midlfield gets overrun by better teams (see Toure and Fernandinho points)
c) Sagna is not a good signing for his age and salary (better to have kept Richards who is younger and now fully fit again, and thus I think would have proved decent enough cover for Zabaleta now fit with a full pre-season and even gives cover at centre half)
d) Instead of signing Cabalerro we should have got a young English keeper happy for now to be 2nd and learn from Joe Hart (and be used in say 8 - 12 selected games per season)

In addition:

a) Jovetic is still an unknown until we see more games from him
b) FFP has restricted our transfer activity (I think we would have gone for Falcao if FFP was not an issue)

In conclusion ?
a) We will in all likelihood not retain the title (Chelsea are better and Arsenal have got better, but Liverpool will miss Suarez, but most worryingly Utd with Falcao (if not injury prone) and Di Maria may well challenge again). Falcao would have been an excellent foil\partner for Aguero

Predicted league table

1. Chelsea
2. Man Utd (please tell me I am wrong with this one ! surely ?)
3. City
4. Arsenal
5. Liverpool
6. Everton
7. Tottenham
8. Southampton
9. Swansea
10.West Ham
11. Stoke City
12. Hull City
13. Aston Villa
14. Leicester City
15. Sunderland
16. Newcastle Utd
17. WBA
18. Crystal Palace
19. QPR
20. Burnley

b) We will do will to get out of our Champions League group (depends how good Roma are and are they Napoli mark 2 for us ?)
c) We may well end the season with no trophies (depends upon League Cup and FA Cup draws)
d) We need 2 significant central midfield players to make our team great

Any thoughts ?

Please assure me we are not going to fall back behind Utd again at least ? (The first Derby in Nov. may shed light on this)

we show top european sides too much respect , when we play the likes of ,bayern , madrid , barca , we change our game , if we played the same swashbuckling football we play most weeks in the premiership , against these teams , we would beat them or at least go down with a fight , instead we play too deep and wait for the inevetable deflected/fluke conceded late goal.
