Re: Starting 11 v Bayern.

Tevez has to play IMO.

I love Dzeko to bits as a player and in attitude.

But playing him in this game puts too much emphasis on him to do everything almost perfectly.

He has to hold the ball, bring others in to play and then somehow get on the end of things.

He can get away with that in the Premier League against the majority of sides, but I think the Bayern centre-back would have more concerns with smaller players nipping around them.

Aguero wide right of a three gives us pace, Silva can float, as and when.

What Tevez gives, alongside goal threat, is hustle and work rate, the ability to pick the ball up in the midfield.

I pray Dzeko has the perfect game, because it seems Roberto will go with him.

I'd even consider dropping Nasri and playing Carlos in midfield.

It has to be all about work rate tonight.

So when it all goes pear-shaped, what would you have on the bench to change it? One of the 3 strikers HAS to be on the bench.

Here's my preview of our clash with European giants Bayern Munich!

Well boys and girls, this is it. Bayern Munich, arguably the most established opponents City have faced in a competitive match in their history, at the Allianz Arena in the Champions League. Does it really get much better than this?

I'll go ahead and say I think we're going to get absolutely smashed to pieces tonight. Many of the players that finished the game on Saturday in the 2-0 win over Everton will start tonight (Silva, Kompany, Clichy, Barry etc.), so it's likely that they will run completely out of steam after 60 minutes or so, and with Bayern boasting world-class talents like Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery I can't see past a Bayern win - I'm sorry.

I think we'll give it a good go for half an hour, but Bayern will eventually get the home crowd behind them and go on to take the game 3-0. If City are to pull off a miracle and win the game, then we need to be at least a goal in front by half time. We know how good we can be at the back on our best defensive days, but Bayern have won their last ten games without conceding a goal. Oops.

I think Mancini may make a bold decision tonight and go with Nigel de Jong in the centre of midfield. However, if he isn't fit I don't see a problem with replacing Yaya with Milner. Milner has been excellent since returning from a hamstring injury late last season, so rewarding him with a Champions League start is a good move in my books.

Of course we have the players capable of securing the unlikely outcome of a City win, but after 60 minutes, I fear our time will run out. I will say right here, around 8 hours before kick-off, that I will happily take a draw.

Bayern Munich 3-0 Manchester City
well bob, I think you should get your specs re-tinted - you've got that score the wrong way round

If de Jong is fit enough start him. I think it's time we pushed Yaya out of DM because he's nowhere near as effective there as he is in central midfield were he can get forward more. Away from home at a team like Bayern I think we need his surging runs, and Nasri's quick runs, on the counter-attack.

wtf no Aguerro?
He's playing very well and is a great player but they can't all play every game and not starting doesn't mean he wont come on and play a big part off the bench. For me, tonight will be won and lost in the centre of midfield and the full backs areas. With Barry Milner and Yaya in midfield we'll be much more solid and harder to break down. With Yaya and Nasri surging forward on the counter attack with pace, Silva's creativity and Džeko's game about playing the ball to his feet when there is space in their last third (ie after a counter attack) I'd start Agüero on the bench. It's not a slight on him, I think he could come on and do some damage, but from the start I think they'll have a lot of posession and we'll have a lot of counter-attack play.

Re: Starting 11 v Bayern.

I would be apprehensive about playing Nasri. He's not done anything IMO since Spurs to warrant a place, and I've got a feeling as Bayern won't be 90 minutes of being on top, he'll do a disapearing act. Saying that without De Jong it may not be wise to start with Barry, Yaya and Milner, especially as the latter is carrying an injury himself.

We have to decide if we're playing our game of attacking, or playing their game of trying to negate Ribery and Robben.

You will be eating humble pie when we win tonight.

With players such as Ribéry, Gomez, Robben, van Buyten and Müller I don't see us playing an attacking game TBH.

This. I think silva might be being a bit tricky in saying we should be attack minded. They are on fire at the moment so we have to be very cautious as a loss makes advancing harder, as others have said. The starting 11 will reveal all imo.
