JMW, you need to calm down mate!

It's like watching a really drunk guy randomly throwing punches in a pub at anyone who comes near them.
strange though there seems to be connection between the posters he's biffing - what could it be?
They're all far more intelligent than him?
or just think they are :)

Also, might be worth a pithy aside about how United have no songs left to sing after we tore up their songbook. 35 Years. Gone. Laugh at City. Gone. Pride of Manchester. Gone. 20,000 Empty Seats. Gone. Council House never full. Gone. City in disguise. Gone. Going down with a billion in the bank. Gone. What do they sing about now at Old Trafford? Leeds?!?!?!?

never thought I would say this, but (through gritted teeth and with a false smile) good post Dave

-- Thu Dec 08, 2011 3:13 pm --

I know there's already a thread about this but I wanted to make sure this didn't get lost. A few of us are appearing on 5 Live at 1pm in a debate with rag fans. We need some soundbites or punchlines to hit them with.

PB - should be good debate. I've not heard about this or been approached, but let the organisers know I'd be more than happy to get involved to put it all into perspective based on the history of Manc football etc.

I posted a few comments on another thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=241547

But I'd be delighted to get involved and paint the true picture of Manchester football now and in the past - I hope they're interested. Plenty to say of course to ensure a balanced debate.

I would deffo get Gary involved (knows more about City than fbloke, in fact more about City than probably anyone, and extremely eloquent too), Dave Wallace would be good to involve too

Gary, Dave Wallace & Kevin Parker are all people who can represent the club very well in public. It may be they are all involved on Saturday and we just haven't heard about it. Both Dave & Kevin are on the BBC's list of contacts.

Might be worth having a look at Dave Duke's OP of a short while ago about being proud to be a Blue - there are some comments in there which really struck the right notes for me.

I think the key difference between us and them is our behaviour - look at united in the semi final last season, even before the match, the majority of them were snarling, aggressive, nasty bullies - no grace, no humour, just spitting bile, throwing stuff at buses and battering old men, kids and people in smaller groups; our fans are not perfect but our ability to laugh at ourselves over decades of under achievement has made us something which they could never hope to be - humorous, self-deprecating, loyal and decent - and that is why people have always liked us a lot more than them, and the only reason we are disliked now is that we have rich and wonderful owners (which is of course another key difference between us, but let's not brag). We tend not to beat them in fights but in decency, humour and humility

Gary - you've crystallised an idea that's been rattling around in my head for a little while. I get fed up of hearing the same rubbish in the media about us (even Nigel Gleghorn was spouting some crap about City & FFP last night). We need a media-savvy group of fans that know their stuff that the media can come to for informed comment. There are a few of us about that are knowledgeable and decent media performers and perhaps the club can help out by ensuring their media contacts have our details?

PB, you're living in a dreamworld if you think the media want to tell the truth, when there's far more sensationalist bollocks they can broadcast

If the rags start going on about how they've dominated over the last 18 years, you have to make the point that in the mid nineties the red scousers defence was all about the number of league titles and European cups they'd won in the past.
Compare them both and tell them to light some candles and have a vigil with their scouse brethren

i went through all this when I was doing the Supporters Trust. They just want sensationalist bollocks but then when you engage with them and tell it how it is, they lose interest and to forget about the sensationalist stuff.

Based on Gary's quotes the BBC have not asked them but they really should, or you should if you are involved in it - there is nobody who writes books about City with the knowledge of Gary, and based on his posts in this forum he always articulates himself really well (and articulating yourself is not rude btw)

Our group contained teams from each of the 3 major leagues outside England ie. Italy, Germany & Spain.

Their group was even easier to get out of than the Sugarbabes.

Does anyone know the difference in prize money between getting through to the knockout stage and then getting knocked out of the last 16 - 8 - 4 - final etc and winning the Europa League
United made 53m euros last year, 27m of which is knockout stage money.
Porto made something like 7.8m euros, about 6 of which was knockout money.
it goes something 200,000 euros for the last 32, 300,000 for last 16, 400,000 last 8, can't remember the semi's but it was 3,000,000 to the winner and 2,000,000 to the runner-up(euros) last year.
Thanks for that JMW. I just hoped the difference wasn't so much that it affected our FFP effort significantly. (In vain it seems.)

No, you have to remember our books looked very different to United last season, they made 53.2m Euros, we made 6.1m.

Now on TV Market Pool alone, if we take the minimum of the 4 English clubs last season Tottenham made 14m euros, Ours might be less as we didn't qualify but we'll be a fair few million up. There was also a 3.9m participation bonus, 3.3m match bonus, and if it were last season we'd have made 2.8m in performance bonus.

Say if we only get 10-12m for TV, we could still make about 22m euros, which is 15.9m up on last season, plus if we do ok in the Europa we'll make a few bob from that.

---

Billy, it seems you still can't take a joke, nvm.

Prestwich, another unnecessary jibe, shame.

Damo & LT, I'm calm and not having a breakdown, just slightly annoyed that I get jibes for making a light hearted comment after already making a researched contribution to the thread, but what should I expect...don't think I'll bother anymore.
