Bell or Silva?

Two different types of players really , playing the game in two vastly different times .....

i don't think that Colin Bell possessed the overall skill with a football that David Silva possesses .... but, in my opinion , he had great technique , and he had the edge in the goalscoring , heading , and tackling departments.

I'd say they were about even in passing ability , although Silvas concentration can be found wanting in this department at times .......... you'd probably have to give the edge to Silva on dribbling , he can turn 'on a sixpence' in extremely tight situations.

Seems a simple enough choice when it's broken down like that ..... Bell simply had that bit more to his game than Silva , and was the more 'complete player' , so he'd have to be my choice .

Just look at the 'technique' Bell displays in scoring this goal at Stamford Bridge , and the way he 'ghosts' into position ....

And that wasn`t a "one off" type of goal from The King.I`ve never seen another player with as much stamina in the last 5 minutes of a game as he had in the first 5 minutes.
Can`t argue with your breakdown of both players and yes as far as dribbling abililty,David would be the better one,but The Kings overall vision, stamina, passing, heading and speed would have seen him catapult to higher levels, had he been able to continue, especially at International level.
The nearest I have ever come to crying was his comeback match against Newcastle at home, when even the Geordies gave him an ovation, the likes I have never witnessed before or since.

Two entirely different types of player so difficult to compare. King Colin would thrive in today's games especially with all the physio stuff to keep him ultra fit.

Not sure Merlin would do well in King Colin's playing era.

King Colin is called King Colin for a very good reason and he'll never be dethroned.

An honour for me to make my 1,000th post in his name.

I've never seen Bell play but certainly don't think Silva belongs in the company of attacking greats until he learns to shoot.

Spot on. It's thanks to Colin that I became a blue back in 1966/7. The nearest player to compare to him in all that time is probably Steven Gerard - but he's still a class below Colin. Our best player in modern times without a shadow of doubt imho. Silva is quite limited by comparison.

No disrespect to David Silva who is a fantastic player but Colin is the King, my boyhood hero and will forever be number 1 in my City all time greats.

As others have said it is unfair to try to compare them as they are/were both wonderful players. However, the day I see David making crucial tackles to stop the opposition scoring in our own box and then getting on the end of the break away to score, I will accept that he can be compared with the King!

Until such time as Dave ups his goal contribution, it has to be Colin. Silva is probably up there as the best midfielder we've had since CB though.
