I dont think hes injured, just not ready yet. There could be any number of reasons why hes not back yet. When you have an injury as bad as his, you can't just get back to playing again, your knee is never the same after an acl, you can recover and be perfectly fine but it won't ever feel the same. Maybe he's still trying to adjust, sometimes you have to totally reinvent the way you walk/run after this kind of injury. He has a very powerful running technique which is very demanding on the body, maybe the physios are working with him on changing that to lessen the potential for a reoccurring injury. you often suffer quite badly from muscle atrophy on your thigh which makes the entire knee and leg feel unsteady, i imagine with the physios and support he gets thats not a major issue but perhaps he's not built that back up sufficiently yet. it's potential,y not even a physical problem, it could be a mental issue, gundogan has talked about him not being the same player after his bad injuries and you can see it in his game at times. Would be great for him to be back for Swansea, perfect game for him to get some pitch time but if he isn't ready we wait,

I think we have to bring in a specialist left back in the summer regardless of Mendys fitness just because we've suffered for 2 seasons now and can't risk doing the same for a third. Time is on Mendys side in that he's got a long contract here, but time isn't on the teams side. I'd be as comfortable putting money on a new left back coming in this summer as I would be putting money on a fernandinho replacement coming in, whether he's a replacement or competiton will remain to be seen.

He defo won't be going anywhere. He's got 4 years left and nobody's gonna take him off us. Sign a top new left back, keep Zinchenko, and if Mendy can get fit again, great. He's a fantastic player. If not, we'll be covered.

Why would Zinchenko agree to stay on that basis? Mendy stays fit and he's third choice behind the new LB - he's not going to hedge his bets on someones fitness.

If Zinchenko stays, he'll be wanting assurances that he's at least considered number 2 in the LB role. If not, he'll have a queue of decent clubs lining up to sign him where he will be getting regular game time. He's not at the stage of his career where he can afford to be not playing.

Either Mendy or Zinchenko will have to leave if we want to sign a new left back. Note all the noise about us wanting one came before Zinchenko's incredible form. It may well be that he's working himself into the clubs plans for next season, rather than us buying someone else. The next couple of months will also be acting as a fitness/character test for Mendy, though I can see the club willing to give up on him just yet given the fee we paid and potential returns.

Everything you said applies to Zinchenko last summer...but he turned everyone down.

Because playing for a massive club and picking up silverware is more appealing than Napoli or Wolves, even if you're a utility player.

He won't get any assurances other than that Pep likes him and will use him when he can.

People seem to be forgetting that just because he's only played left back so far, he is still a midfielder. He'll get games, especially if Delph and Gundogan leave.

I assume rushing him back and playing him on a shit pitch has aggravated his knee injury, his fault, naturally.

“He has a little bit of swelling in the knee, and that’s all,” said Guardiola. “It’s a danger you can have sometimes when you come back. He needs time.

“It is a problem, but it’s OK. We move forward and hopefully he can come back soon.”

That quote is from six weeks ago.

I know, that's when he aggravated it against Burton, he was rushed back and it's made the situation worse. He said himself that he felt OK after the run out but obviously he was kidding himself.
