Benjamin Mendy - City lose case and Mendy awarded £11m in back pay (p168)

Be interested to hear a couple of examples of players that have gone off and done crazy things in their free time?
Stefan Schwarz had a clause that not many other players will have had in their contract when he signed for Sunderland.

“Because of Schwarz's publicly-expressed desire to become a space tourist, the club inserted a "Space Clause" into his contract, stating that if he were to travel beyond Earth's atmosphere his contract would become wholly invalid.“

It's definitely true as I've had to do lots of work on suspensions and sackings. For some reason I seemed to be the person of choice by my employer to handle disciplinaries. What I will say is that I was always fair and was once asked to sack somebody by my boss and refused after holding an interview.

I must vary by employer then I guess. I’m not an HR expert.

Do you mean it would discourage women from making false allegations? That would be a good thing.

No, I meant exactly what I said. Which was that women who have been raped would be even less inclined to report it than they currently are. And it’s already acknowledged as one of the lowest reported crimes.

Even those that do make a complaint of rape, in 42% of cases the victim gave up and withdrew support for seeking justice through the criminal justice system.

Having the threat of being dragged back through the courts if the defendant got a not guilty, would undoubtedly drag that figure up even higher.

If it turns out he's owed money then pay him and move on. If City can prove he's not entitled to anything and he gets nada then move on.
Either way I'm not overly concerned about the situation, he was dealt a shitty hand with the accusations and damage to his career and character (though his character seems a bit damaged anyway) but he's already much wealthier than the vast majority of posters on here I reckon and he will still play football going forward and earn a shed load more so I find it hard to care either way.

Mendy has been acquitted of all charges. The man's life was immeasurably harmed by false allegations made against him. That is a very bad thing.

Do you think that we should just say, "OK, never mind" about those women? Do you think it's fine for such serious - false - allegations to be made against someone?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you seem to be saying that no action should be taken against women who make false allegations.

If you've been raped, you should report it and society should encourage you to report it.

If you have not been raped, you should not say that you have. There's a pretty clear distinction there.

I never used to agree with you but lately that's been happening a lot. What's going on? It feels weird.

Mendy being found not guilty doesn’t mean the women concerned were making false allegations. They may have been, or some of them may have been, but as with Mendy there would need to be proof of this.
