Benjamin Mendy - City lose case and Mendy awarded £11m in back pay (p168)

I'm amazed that so many Blues are getting so wound up about a comment made by a Barrister/solicitor in a bankruptcy hearing.
Yep, it's just between the club and the player (maybe even the insurers and the player?) and for all we know they've already come to an agreement. No idea why people are getting so bent out of shape over this.

I can't believe people see this as an issue. Put yourself in this position you work in a job that is highly performance driven with bonuses, your employer suspends you, pending the completion of the legal process, thus denying you the level of compensation you would have received had they not and you are found NOT GUILTY! In what world shouldn't you receive, full payment for such?

Breach of his bail in such an egregious way has to be at least arguable grounds for gross misconduct. The only reason his bail was reinstated is because of his custody time limit being exceeded due to the backlog in the criminal courts - and the further delays caused by the additional charges that the prosecution brought.

I expect any negotiations will centre around this bail point, but I’m sure he’ll get weighed in significantly. The club won’t want an unedifying courtroom battle when they can make this go away.

Clubs do have some control over what players can do in their own time.
If a player wanted to go skiing for example, the club would say no.
There will also be rules around bringing the club into disrepute.

there is no control over the player if they wanted to go skiing outside of his football and training and playing times
some players do crazy things in their free time or days off, if a manager had full control of his player's lifestyles he would not have much time on his hands for football,

You hope you can drill the players into ideas and plans and good habits, but the truth is it's out of the club's and managers' hands, As I said the only control would be playing time or training with the kids and the cold shoulder then out the door in the next transfer window,

i think you will find a lot if not all players will have something in their contracts banning them from doing some sports, they arent even allowed to play football outside of their clubs because of injury
