Footballing bankruptcies are normally on the back of divorces. Mendy was different as his income was pulled and he would still have a huge mortgage and massive tax bill to pay - and he obviously didn’t have easily accessible assets to cover them until the house sold. Once sold he was fine.
I’ve seen closely loads of celebrity bankruptcies over the years. Normally young soap stars or pop stars earning a huge income in the first year or two - buying properties cars luxury items with huge monthly payments - and thinking they are fine for the tax bill at they will earn similar amount of income the following year.
But then success dries up - their earnings decline and suddenly there isn’t enough cash to cover the outgoings or pay the tax bill.
I’ve seen high profile soap stars doing great - but then written out of the show and the whole pack of cards collapses.
