With the situation is Ukraine, Bernard if anything could possibly be available at bargain price and makes you think if we are interested then that is why are after him.

I am going with Tolmie's verdict on Milner leaving, I just think at his age he will see this point in his career where he needs to be playing every week and that is why I don't see him staying.

Lopes will be promoted but I also think we will look for an attacking option if we can afford it to replace Milner.

Like I said, we were linked with Bernard last summer any maybe our interest hasn't gone away.

If last summer is anything to go by, then his agent is a bit of a snake who would certainly try and force his way out, but probably to the highest bidder. Any young player who chooses Shakhtar over Porto is probably thinking more about their short term bank account than their long term development. If we are switching to 433/4231, then bringing him in as well as promoting Lopes would make sense, but only if we sell a striker, as well as Milner

They won the UEFA Cup not so long ago. Up until the last couple of years I'd have regarded them as one of the best European club teams

They are a very good team, but will never be a top team due to the league they play in. But they have so much money that they don't have to sell players, so players who go there really struggle to ever get away. If a player wants to get to one of the top teams in europe and compete as one of the best players in the world, then going to Shakhtar really hurts your chances. Whereas if you go to Porto, you fully expect a move to a top team in a year or two if you play well, it's a stepping stone, compared to Shakthars veritable dead end

Interesting. Sort of agree that he's not worth that sort of money - however I doubt very much whether it's anywhere near that kind of money we're bidding.

I suppose with FFP and the player being unhappy we can get him on a loan with a guaranteed 2015 purchase.
