Bernardo Silva: “Something has to change. You learn who you can go to war with, first of all"

Just jossing mate.

No really ;-)
If there is one thing I fucking hate, it is a cloaked passive-aggressive dig statement at the club.

Be that by Bernardo, Yaya, Kdb, the 1894, Pep even, whoever. Particularly a terribly timed one.

That's how I see his comments, and my reaction is to that. Having held back on his lack of performance all season, a bit of frustration release on my part.

It's cool, off my chest now.

I have been frustrated by his game all season. And regularly questioned why he is on the pitch. Out of respect for his apparent personality though, and some bit of loyalty, I wouldn't say negative things about him or our other players (or manager) that have done so much for the club previously.

Now he has shat on his personality and loyalty.
He’s done neither, but you’re entitled to your opinion

Shocking take on a legendary player.
Just remember those early minutes against Chelsea on Khusanovs debut, the way Bernardo took responsibility for the team and helped out his teammate was magnificent.
Maybe look at a 500 k a week striker scared to take a pen, or a 100m flop who is more worried about his next drink and not care about the club that invested do much on him.
Equally just as presumptuous.

I hear you, I don't agree with you but I hear you and as blues that should be the important thing, we all have views.

It's kind of hilarious how some think what our little pirate said is not about the club and other players though because IMHO it obviously is.

Most of our problems stem from poor relations between the fans and the club and the distance between the players and the fans, this HAS to get better.

Equally just as presumptuous.
He cares and he hates what he sees and what we have become, everyone at this club should be looking in the mirror, the drop off has been appaling, arrogance, shear incompetence from top to bottom.

Him saying that, I would have been totally ok with fwiw.

He’s probably not used to the passive, loser mentality some of players seemingly have adopted.

I'm all for Bernie having a pop after a mediocre season and there has been a lot of talk recently that some players have lost hunger, focus etc. However, when you do have a pop you need to look at your own role in this situation. Bernie for me was once a dynamic, fast forward thinking player who terrified defences when he ran with the ball. In tight spaces there were few better. Add to that an incredible work rate and you have a big reason why we were so successful. This year he has done that maybe one game a month otherwise he dwells on the ball, rarely finds a forward player early - rather turns full circle before laying it off to a defender. Is this because he's been overplayed for years? Is it because he's carrying injuries? - in which case he shouldn't have played - I have no idea but one thing for certain Bernie version 25 is a lot less of a player than Bernie 17-24. He is the rondo king lots of touches without frightening teams anymore.

Maybe his quotes are out of context? Yet he is one of the reasons, albeit a small one, we have failed to reach the heights of the recent past. If I was in the dressing room such comments if true would be not taken well.

I rewatched the final and I was harsh on a lot of our players, but Silva was more active in around the Palace penalty area this game than he has in any other game this season for me! He was everywhere trying to make something happen, but like we seemed to do this season, we played too slow, players holding on to the ball way too long when the pass was there to play!
Respect to for rewatching that crap!

“You learn a lot of new things,” said Silva. “In the bad moments you learn new things. Who you can go to war with, first of all. Because it's in the bad moments that you see who the real ones are. And a lot of things that were good for us to not take things for granted, for our fans, for the club. And yeah, don't lower our standards.”
“I know we've got people used to winning every year,” said Silva. “And people demand this team to win every year. Football is a tough sport and it's not easy to beat these teams, especially in the Premier League. Like today, this team has a lot of individual quality. If you go and look around teams in the Premier League, all of them have two, three players that are unbelievable players. Our level needs to be very, very high to be champions again. And that's the level that we want to reach again.”
“It's a really, really bad season for us,” he said. “Something has to change next year. It's for the big bosses to decide. I have my opinion but definitely something needs to change when you don't perform at this level.”

I don't see it as much more than a call for the whole club to fight to get back to the top.
He, like most of us, is frustrated that we are not at the level we were. He will be frustrated with himself, and at the board for releasing his comrade, KDB.

By all means call me out if I’ve wrongly characterised you as a JCL - your username and joining date and your opinions lead me to believe that you perhaps don’t have a fully developed understanding of the game gained over many years and decades of watching football at different levels.

Football’s more like a game of chess than a game of basketball. You attack then we attack isn’t how it’s played at the top level. Bernie, even a sub par Bernie plays a crucial role in the team. He’s the bravest man on the pitch, physically and mentally. Never hides, never gives up, never passes responsibility. He does the dirty work that often goes unnoticed by newer fans who are understandably more seduced by Big Erl smashing in goals left right and centre or KDB splitting defences with wonder passes.
No problems. What you said makes sense. I just don’t seem to be able to perceive the positive contribution from Bernie in recent games. I can observe that Bernie being everywhere to provide the extra man situation which is really useful by itself. But my problem is that when he has the ball or when his teammate is having the ball, Bernie tends to play the static tikitaka which is very out for both winning the match and audience’s eyes. And Bernie had a lot of ball possession in recent games and his lack of proactive ball movement lead to low threatening chances to me. Him, KDB and Doku having the majority of ball possession of the City side is the biggest problem to me. If he can just do the dirty jobs but quickly release the ball whoever teammate is in the good position instead of just KDB he will earn more respect from me.

He has long forgotten more than you will ever know about top quality football. He’s one of the best, most valuable players in the team.

Of course he has, but he’s no use to us now. We can’t afford sentimentality, the old legends were kept a season too long.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with his attitude I agree, it’s just that his play this season is symptomatic of how ineffective we’ve suddenly become. Slow, no forward passes, weak shooting.

Huge reset and recruitment needed in summer. We need a winner’s mindset again throughout the whole team.

I’ve edited your quote down. But isn’t the point Bernardo making is that when some players had were tired, in the red zone or had knocks, the went missing. Especially during our bad run.
