Bernardo Silva - 2017/18 performances

Right, I'm going to say it and I hope he proves me wrong, but after maybe a dozen performances I'm worried this guy is Samir Nasri the second: has ability but takes too long on the ball and takes the safe option too often. The way he slows us up is not the way Pep wants us to play.
Bernardo and Nasri both have a lot of natural talent but in terms of attitude they couldn't be more different.

Bernardo is a "nice" player. Nasri is not.

Which is such a shame - a motivated Nasri - giving his all each game - would be phenomenal.

A motivated Nasri - giving his all each game - while maintaining a team attitude - would be Balon 'Dior class.

Nasri has more innate talent than Bernardo - but has huge character defects, thus stopping him well short of his potential.

Was bought to learn from and ultimately replace his genius namesake, in my opinion.

He'll end up in the middle. He isn't there now because David and KDB are better. We don't really have a rotation option for right wing so he's out there.

Undoubted ability and will be just fine, in time.

Where did this bizarre group-think sentiment that Nasri was brilliant (apart from his attitude) come from?

I've no real idea what Nasri's attitude is like, but I do know that he was never good enough for City for the reasons above: he slows play down. It was a problem under both Mancini and Pellegrini but would be much worse under Pep because we break like lightning when defensive teams have had an attack. That's my concern about Bernando. He has too many touches, he slows play down, he brings the ball round to his left foot all the time. By the time he's "set" the killer pass options have closed up.

As I said, It's early days and I can see he has something: he does run at people and take them out the game. But I'm not convinced he's the right player for us at this stage. He was touted as a Silva replacement but he doesn't look it at the moment.

I agree. Haven’t been overly impressed so far. Neither has Pep judging by the amount of time he has spent on the bench. Tidy player on the ball but no cutting edge for me.

Nasri he absolutely is not.

B. Silva gives his all on the pitch every game I've watched; he's adjusting to the pace and aggressiveness of the P/L. Not as innately talented as Nasri - but none of the personality handicaps that held Nasri up.

He is a huge talent who will replace Silva. He is an Iniesta type playmaker who will drift into space and create chances. He is not a right winger much in the way David Silva was not a left winger. Yes David was effective from wide positions still but Bernardo will continue to settle and improve.

He is without doubt a player that will get better and better as he settles into the pace of our league. Give him time.

Bernardo's been extremely productive this last five or so weeks. That's what, his fifth assist in that time? And he's grabbed three goals too.
