The advert is as racist as hell that is for sure but still it has nothing to do with the tweet and comparison of a cartoon character to Mendy, I said right at the start it was a mistake to tweet it but it doesn't make him a racist and liable for punishment.

No i agree with you totally. I was responding more to the comment around why would a black person be offended at that character (the black or white one) and its easy to see why. That being said, in no way do i think Bernardos tweet was racist, it just could have been a hell of a lot better thought through.

Bernardo tweet aside - Had the pleasure of visiting Africa a couple of years back and witnessed many tribal ceremonial greetings and events that included spears (that seem to be causing so much consternation), admittedly mosty for the tourist, but I got the impression those participating were rightly and justifiably proud of their history.
Should such things be banned for perpetuating the "stereotyping" the few on here are so so offended by?

I think the problem doesn't lie with Bernardo intended the connotations or being aware of them, I think the problem lies with the ones who feel offended and are unable to read the context in which it was written. Making this the big issue it has become, it will not help the fight vs racism and for me, that is the truly sad part of this all.

We're all playing this game, on both sides but I'd say only a small percentage actually care about the racist aspect.

A pretty weak article, especially about the Everton fans unveiling a big anti racism banner. Ffs, a few fans get together, buy a flag and show it off at Goodison to make out Everton fans are showing the way. She says players wearing pre match shirts with Kick It Out was only a token gesture, well I have news for Aluko so was the Everton display. It hardly means fuck all.

Having black friends amongst the ones you socialise and work with, accepting their colour without any prejudice in how you perceive and interact with them is far more important. It’s called being mates, the ones you help, the ones that help you, sticking together when life is shit but also having a fucking great time when you can.

I wonder how many of those Everton fans have black friends and I wonder how many have racist jokes on their mobiles?

The Silva issue has had far too much made of it, he will be aware some people think he dropped a bollock but apart from that he doesn’t need education. A ban will be well over the top when you look at the incidents of Racism on Mainland and Eastern Europe that go relatively unpunished.

I would agree with you on the context, for sure. But you put something out to over a million people, you cant possibly expect absolutely everyone to see things the same way. There is absolutely no shame in acknowledging that.

The irony is that Everton were the most racist club in the league until well into the 80s. Not only were they the last major club to sign a black player, when Liverpool had their first few black players, including John Barnes, Everton fans used to chant 'N****rpool' at them.
