Bernardo Silva charged with misconduct by FA

I would agree with you on the context, for sure. But you put something out to over a million people, you cant possibly expect absolutely everyone to see things the same way. There is absolutely no shame in acknowledging that.[/QUOTE

Everything that is put on social media can offend others. Because you never know when something is offensive to others. So it is all about the context.
And again this way what really matters gets lost.

Benfica have released the following in their weekly newsletter. 1/3 - "Bernardo Silva is a young man who has always been distinguished by his simplicity, character and good training. At Benfica we are so proud of you, Bernardo!"

2/3 - "Just look at the way he feels and expresses his love for the club he was formed in. This helps us understand the kind of person we are talking about. Two friends in a tweet turned into racist intentions..."

3/3 - "...and filing a lawsuit for misconduct, demonstrates and is a sign of a disease of the times." [@ojogo via @Sport_Witness]

So the FA are going to do Bernado for his tweet. Well I hope that they also go after the Tottenham supporters who keep shouting YID ARMY. Although I am not Jewish I find it highly offensive. I have worked for a Jewish firm and they would have sacked anyone who used that awful word, as they found it highly offensive.

The irony is that Everton were the most racist club in the league until well into the 80s. Not only were they the last major club to sign a black player, when Liverpool had their first few black players, including John Barnes, Everton fans used to chant 'N****rpool' at them.

And... ‘Hello, Hello, Everton are white, Everton are white’

I love that turn of phrase at the end. Might nick that and claim it as my own.

Because there is no history of non-white people using such caricatures of white people in order to humiliate and insult them, as part of a bigger systemic racism issue.

Seriously, if those of you who are "FREE SPEACH!" moaners bothered to listen just once and look into a topic past its surface level, you might be curious to find that there are deeper reasons and meaning to certain things.
Mediterraneans called whiter Northern Europeans “Barbarians” meaning uncivilised and uninteligent for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. The whitest of populations will almost certainly have had caricatures and words used about them in order to humiliate and insult them as part of a bigger systemic racism issue. They were also invaded, exploited and enslaved by the Mediterranean and Hunnic Empires.
