The problem with the swap is what would de Jong want in wages. He wouldn't want to reduce his salary at the current stage of his career. That would be the sticking point imo.

Not the first time. Sane was in the last year of his contract when we 'had to' sell him. Tried with Garcia too but Barcelona took thd piss so we kept him. Got 5m for Kolarov in his last year. 15 for Otamendi.

Players like Adebayor, Hart, Robinho, Bridge, Bellamy I think were also sold in their last year, or loaned out and then let go for free or a minimal loan fee.
