Release clause is a shame but it may help us with planning if for instance it is very clear that the clause can only be triggered within say a week of the season ending so clubs have to put up or shut up and we can get on with our business.

Does anyone know anything about this supposed release clause?

Got to say that feels like a bit of a kick in the plums. I had visions of 2, or even 3, more years at City and then a freebie to see out his days with his ‘beloved’ Benfica, but given that the record fee they’ve ever paid for a player was circa £38m for a 21 year old Enzo Fernandez, they clearly aren’t likely to stump up £47m for a 30 year old Bernie next summer. Given that release clause would have been inserted surely at his behest, it suggests that those grasping twats at the Nou Camp were his objet d’amour all along.
Like Ahsan says, smacks of a load more wonga and a swift exit rather than any genuine recommitment to City.

He's 30 next summer and getting 47 million for him combined with the fact he doesn't particularly want to stay at City isn't a bad deal. We get a final year from him which would of been a disaster considering if he'd left and he gets his move next summer for a decent fee for a 30 yo.

£47m into the Wirtz fund maybe as well?

That's how I'm looking at it... Who's to say there will be a buyer for him next year as well? Even if there is, hopefully, Paqueta's situation will be resolved and we can go back for him.

We've had his best years and he's still at his peak, 47m for a 30 yr old is fair enough and is reward for not throwing his toys around. This is great news, whoever we sign won't be as good as Bernie and we have another year to plan a replacement.

Considering that release clause quoted is getting back our £42m we paid for him.Am happy with that and it puts the end to old players wanting to leave. The squad will be full of young lads except for Kevin who we know might retire here.

People moaning about his release clause , Bernie earned it . Stop moaning about it and not be a one dimensional dick head.
All parties involved are happy , we got one season to look for his replacement while he gets his wish after a long loyal service .

Imagine being a little disappointed that a key player with 2 years (3 with the extension) left on his contract, and who’s belly ached about leaving for the last 2 years, looks like he’s found a way to finesse his way out of the door.…..

FDJ fully paid up what he's owed next year? ¬_¬

Ahsan makes shite up to pretend he is in the know all the fucking time lol. Enjoy his podcast but he is privy to fuckall that goes on at the club.

Everyone should stop talking about his greedy **** parqueta and bring him in conversation relating to city .There’s a massive red flag in front of him and sooner we stay clear of him the better . We are already burdened with 100s of charges and never ending investigations.

We don't even know that anybody will pay the release clause next year. For instance, I'm not sure Barca could even afford it. It doesn't guarantee he leaves next offseason.

If a RC in 24 are the terms of the Mendez/Bernardo camp for a contract extension then i would pass. Thought the purpose of the new contract was that we could have planning certainty/silence from Gestifute/Bernardo till at least 2025. What`s even the point for a new contract? One-time loyalty bonus would have the same effect (keeping Bernardo happy). With the old contract Bernardo would be cheaper on the books, we could save commission fee to Mendez & still have the power of desicion regarding the transfer fee in 24. If the worst case comes to fruition (free agent in 25) then so be it.
RC in 25 would makes sense, in 24 it doesn`t...an extension till 26 with RC 24 would be dumb PR with no substance

Innocent until proven guilty and all that...
