It’s not about versatility, it’s about squad sufficiency. Some people ignore that Mahrez did play and contribute a lot to last season even if he wasn’t in the starting XI consistently. They also ignore that Cancelo was our defender with the most minutes until he left. You take him out of the first half of the season and how does the squad look at the end of the season with all his minutes having to be played by others. Oh but “we won the treble because he left”. Maybe we won because he was there when he was?Versatility is key.

Grealish played a lot better without Cancelo in the team for starters. In fact we looked a better balanced team when we shipped Cancelo out. If there is a player that does fit our profile we will see. But we aren't going to sign any random player either for the sake of it.

He didn't say anything about operating centrally. He said we wouldn't replace his skills, because all players are different. People make up what they want to hear.
